Ok, I talked with jackyl and truely appreciated his honesty so I'm going to poll you riders out there. What's your opinion on the tank lift; yea, nay, neutral?? Let me know what size you went with, how you like it, any beofre and after pics, etc... Give me the scoop to help me make the decision.
I had a 3" kit on my Bob and wanted to take it off and go back to the stock look. I ended up trading Jackyl for a 2" lift.
I guess I'm looking for a new look for 2008.
Got a 2 1/4" lift from RudeDog and love it - subtle but noticeable when parked next to a stock dyna, and follows frame line perfectly. See gallery pics for more.
I have to agree with the 2" lift.
I made my own, (took a piece of 1" x 1/8" steel, bent it into a U shape, drilled some holes, a little black paint, done) started with the 3" lift, cut it down to a 2".
IMHO, the 2" lift changes the lines just right.
Be careful, this was my first homemade modification, now I'm hooked! LOL
One question, does it affect the gas guage/light much (not a big deal as I still use the odometer mostly) and since it is tilted up more can it still use all the gas in the tank or will there be some gas trapped at the back of the tank?
I made my own as well. About 2-1/2 inch. I made it from some garage door bracketry I had laying in the garage. I took a dremel with a cut-off wheel to cut the lifts (2) to the corect size and shape. Then I used a sanding drum to smooth them out. Painted them black and installed. I covered the extra bolt with a chrome tube from a tire guage that I cut to correct size. Didn't cost me a cent. You can see it in my sig pic, but I don't have a close-up at the moment.
I got the 1 1/2" from Shoptroll, I only wanted a slight change and thats what I got and I like it....but, it does throw off the gauge and low fuel light slightly as well. No biggie, I just start looking for a gas station when the gauge drops below 1/4 tank, or use the trip meter. Sorry, no pics.
