I don`t have a service manual and I don`t remember which hole the tach signal wire goes into in the speedo plug. There are three so I guessI could just try them all but I was hopeing someone here knows which one it was exactly. Thanks.
You say three holes, are you talking about the speed sensor on the tranny?
Is this a Harley tach?
There is a tach output on your ECM plug........On my 05 FXDCI it is number three (of 36) on the ECM. The wires are all numbered on the plug (not the wire).
If you are installing an aftermarket tach, you may have to take the feed off of this plug. If you are messing with the speed sensor on the tranny, be careful, it not only works the speedo, but also several other vital functions, like the throttle position sensor, the maninflod pressure sensor, as well as the timing for your self-cancelling turn signals.
I'm speaking from experience. I installed a complete digital everything on my scoot.
I havre a servive manual with wiring for my 2005 if that will help you.
Incidently, if it is an aftermarket tach, and it has a selector for number of cylinders, it should be set on "1 cylinder" if you use the tach output on the ECM plug.
This is a Harley Tach. There use to be a tach power lead off of the speedo plug on the back of the speedo. I`ve installed several of these but I always have a manual available. since I`m not working right nowI don`t have them available to me. I really need to buy some. IfI can`t come off of the speedo anymore I`ll have to run the wire back to the ecm i guess. Thanks.
