Well I emailed the guys at Techmount on the off chance that they could modify a stem mount to work with the threads on a harley stem. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that is going to work, so it's back to my search. Anyone on the forum figured out a clean looking way to mount a gps tight to the bike?
make a custom console bracket for the top of the tank. something that just clips onto your tank console while you are using it. then it will be hinden between your legs. jackyl
The Garmin Zumo 550 is also waterproof. I'd thought about doing something custom on the console, unfortunately my ability to fabricate things is lacking. With your fabrication background, how hard to you think it would be to make a removeable bracket that tied into the console bolt at the front of the seat? I'd rather not drill into the console on the bike if I don't have to. On a slightly different note, do you think it would be possible to cut threads into a techmount to work on the steering stem?
Firefighter, I've been keeping mine in a leather magnetic tank bag I got at the dealer for around $50. The GPS is in the middle under a clear plastic pocket. A little pain for constant looking, but a glance every now and then do-able. Solves the problem of sticking up above your ape bars, and the magnets hold it tight, no marks left over when taken off, as the magnets are inside the leather. Attached a pic, you can see my nuvi in the middle. Left side is my garage door opener. Nice little inexpensive, temp fix. A main pocket behind the front pockets holds my wallet for easy access to ID when I ride onto the army base... its the same bag as the two posts above mentioned, by the way.

The RAM mounts look good, I'm just not sure about having the GPS hanging out there on the mini apes. Does anyone know of a mount that would put it down on the tank panel or somewhere a tighter to the bike?
I have my Zumo 550 mounted with a RAM mount right between the risers. When not needed all is left is a chrome mount. I also use the small ram arm to keep it down between the handle bars.
and with a c piece of iron I make a central hole for the ball and later holes for mount where the tank is attached.
I've seen thi from another member of this forum (yeah).
