I put one of these on my SG, and bolted the RAM bracket directly to it. It provides for a lower profile than using the ball mounts from RAM. I bought and installed both to compare, and I like this way much better.

I am guessing you don't like the mount that comes with the zumo 550? I have the Zumo 550 and didn't like the mount either. I had a magellan 300 on the WG before and made a mount using a chrome cable holder. They come in assorted sizes. Then fabbed a braket out of flat stock and round stock. The 550 had the same bolt pattern so I just reused it. I don't have close up pics but in my album on this site I think there is a pic that shows the GPS on the bars. This method keeps it close to the bars for a cleaner look.

I also ran a headphone jack extension under the fuel tank so I can plug headphones in and listen to music sincethe 550has a MP3 player.
