Default Ram GPS Mounts

Anyone have any issues with the Ram GPS mounts? I've been looking at them online for a few minutes, and the concern I have is that the ball/socket joint will wear and the GPS unit will move all over the place as i'm riding.

For reference, I went with the Garmin Nuvi 1300

Have used the same mount on my '03 Heritage and now on my 08 Ultra. Never has loosened unless I loosen it. 6 years now.

It looks easy to install and remove from the bars, is that right? I take 2 to 3 trips a year where the GPS would be handy to have, the other times i'll be using the GPS for vehicle trips.

I figure if i'm on a shorter ride, I can remove the mount with ease so that it's not an eye sore.

Or am I misguided?

The base mount is what is ugly on them. The "U" bolt portion can be replaced with a billet ball than has a clean clamp via E-Bay. That being said I am on the same mount and cradle since 04. Moved it from 2 different bikes and and 30k miles on the same mount with no issues.

Do you have an ebay link to what you're talking about?

I have used them with great success before, actually got the idea from a fellow member who used the ball with screw threads and drilled hole in the inner fairing. When the GPS was removed, all that was left was the small ball mount, looked almost factory and worked very well.
