Last night on the ride home from work the weather channel said it was 34 degress but felt like 23 due to 20mph winds.I think my fingers were just about ready to fall off so yea I think I hit my limitlast night. Thankfully it is supposed to be in the lower 60s again this Sunday then up in the high 60s for a few days after that. Crazy weather.
The cold doesn't keep me off the road...but the salt does. It comes out, I stay in. Like now. Bastards.
The salt keeps my new wideglide off the road right now too. That, and the below zero temps lately. Last winter I was able to ride my Buell Ulysses each month of the winter ( at least a 10 mile ride-just to say I did it), but we had much less snow last year. The wideglide battery is on the charger now and I'm glad you guys are here to hang out with. I do miss the Buell. I should pick up a cheap winter beater bike. Good to hear there are some crazies out riding in the cold. I know it gets pretty cold in Florida and Arizona in winter, but I won't tell anyone to "grow a set" if they choose to keep their scoot in the garage for a few months. Its part of the game up here, for most sane people. Happy New Year to everyone on the site. Peace. Tim
Wow, we got a guy from Arizona telling us to grow a set, and a guy from Florida agreeing and calling us R.U.Bs. I guess you guys need to come up to Northern Minnesota and show me how to ride in the cold.
Tim
I was just joking but FWIW I am from connecticut and live in florida now.
If it is above zero it really is not that cold that you can not dress for the occasion.
now when there is postings of temperature exposure and frostbite time... well it is cold and you are advised to not expose yourself to the weather if possible.
Twenty one this morn at seven but the sun was shining and it's only about twelve miles to work so it wasn't too bad,but I wouldn't wanna ride go on a road trip in these temps.
I'm guessing that tree88 who started this post was asking the question more as a poll, and it seems to have turned into something else.
Ya - it's funny the guy from Arizona telling people to grow a set and ride - funny. As I type it's 48 deg in Chandler AZ, and it's 9 deg here in MA with a wind chill of -2deg. That's a big difference. Has not been 48 deg at 10AM here for more than a handful of days since November.
According to azgunner - just about everyone around here must be a pu$$y with no ***** because I have not seen one person on a bike since XMAS eve when it got up to around 38. The roads are salty, sandy and cold which mostly just makes riding dangerous this time of year.
I like to ride but I'm not a "real biker" since for me it's mostly a way to escape and relax from an otherwise hectic schedule. Even if the roads were clear, I would get no pleasure wrapped up in a snow suit just so I could say I rode when it was 0 degrees.
So - to answer the initial post - I'll take a 1/2-1 hour ride as long as it's sunny and in the high 30's. Anything colder is just not enjoyable.
6 below? I think you are excused from riding duty today. I can still have fun down to about 20, under 20 it has to be a DAM good reason, 6 below, somebody better be dying, and they better be family, and they better not recover
My response was to the original post, read it & untie your knickers. Ridden in lots of low to mid 20° temps & its very doable when dressed right. Would I want to ride around with temps in the teens, probably not. I grew up in the Minneapolis & Chicago areas, I'm no stranger to cold. How about some 115°-120° sound. Let's Ride!!!
