I'm interested in purchasing a 1995 Harley Wide Glide in good condition. The possible issue is that it has 45,000 miles on it. The price is right, $5995. What would your advice be? I really don't have any mechanical abilities nor a large bank account for repairs. I also know you can't tell me to buy or not to buy a bike without looking at it. What would you suggest in this case though. Is it too many miles to be a safe investment, or would a well maintained harley w/45000 miles not be a huge issue.. I've attached pics.
looks well maintained. does he have service records for it. could you take it to a indy and have it checked out. take these things into account and make your decision. good luck the bike looks good
Twelve year old bike...45k miles = less than 4k miles in a year...not bad. Looks good in pics...looks garage kept. Get service records! What type of rider owned it...does it smoke...wrecked...lots of things to check out on a bike, get a shop to look at it. I am always nervous about used bikes but there are good ones out there and the price for this one doesn't sound off. Good luck and keep us posted!
I'm with the other guys.. If its good, buy it.. I think thats a great price.. I have a '94 with 36,xxxthat looks just like it without some of the chrome, but I've got 18" apes on mine.. I wouldnt take $10k for it.. Realisticly, I think its worth $7-8k in my opinion. Good luck, great bike..
It is a very clean looking bike. Without knowing the service history it could go either way. At around 3,750 miles per year it was obviously ridden regularly, so to get it to 45,000 miles I would have to guess that it was maintained sufficiently. If you ride it and there are no obvious mechanical problems (missing, knocking, clutch slippage, etc.) I would say the odds are in your favor. It would be hard for me to pass on a clean wide glide for that price.
I would take it to a indy shop like the guys before said to have it checked. but it sounds like the right money. last year I was thinking about getting a mid 90s dyna, about 6-6,500 was the price everyoen told me to spend on one at most. get to know some guys in your area and they can help you out with repairs.
