I work for Advance Auto Parts. We carry many oil filters for late model Harleys in black and also in chrome. They are made by Fram. I can even order a starter for my Shovelhead in chrome! It is only $389, anyone want to donate??
Don't forget to put a rag under the filter before you unscrew or you'll have oil all over the case and your regulator. Oil spill pad cut in half works great.
Take your time and enjoy the experiance followed by a beer.
If you ran the Amsoil before and liked it, get it again. The have filters too. And they deliver. I never had a problem with it or Mobil 1 with a K&N Filter. Keep researching.
I agree on the quality of a Fram filter. I have cut them open before and seen what they are made of. But Fram filters and Castrol oil outsell the rest 2 to 1 and are two products I would NEVER use.
I guess it is due to the great comercials they both have. Never underestimate the power of the American advertising $.
I think I will go with the Mobil 1 oil. It's easy enough to get locally. Do most of you run synthetic or regular oil? And forgive me for asking these questions, I know this subject has been beat to death on every forum on the net. I just want a couple of quick opinions and I just choose one or the other.
I have always heard that Fram oil filters were junk too. But.....my 97 GMC truck has 335,000 miles on it and has had nothing done to the engine....I've run Fram oil filters in it since I've had it....a few times I used the AC Delco brand but mostly Fram. They may be crap compared to other brands but they must not be bad enough to cause premature engine failure. Anyhow, I'll probably use the HD filter which I think someone said was made by Fram.
Thanks for the tip on some auto parts stores carrying HD filters. I'll check on that. If they do, it'll save me a long trip to the HD dealer. Thanks everyone for the help on this.
A lot ofdealers and indyscarry a Drag Specialties filter wrench which has a cut out to help not hit the Crank Positioning Sensor while removing or installing a filter. Should be about 10.00. Also available on-line.
