I have stock exhaust on my 06 Super Glide. I intended to save the money and buy new exhaust, PCIII and Screamin' Eagle stage 1 kit. But...my neighbor gave me the exhaust off his Fat Boy. He suggested that I remove the slip on part and put on mine. It's the stock exhaust from the Fat Boy with the baffles removed. I don't even know if they would fit, but here's my question....is it a bad idea to run it without baffles? Another friend told me that running without the baffles takes away back pressure that the engine needs and causes you to loose some low end torque but doesn't make much difference on the top end. I don't want to loose low end torque. I just wanted better sound. Is this a bad idea? Should I just leave it stock and later on buy a good exhaust system to put on this bike?
i agree - the engine needs some back pressure although stock pipes alone provide some. easy swap, assuming they fit, change 'em out and see what happens. damn sure will get neighbors attention when you fire it up
I doubt they will even fit so the point is really moot. However, if you can't wait (I was there once), get some slipons at a good price that you can probably get most of your money back out of when you do upgrade your pipes, etc. Right after I got my bike, I picked up a set of '06, new in the box, SE II slipons and installed them in about 30 minutes. Instant upgraded sound without changing the a/c and adding or downloading anything else. 6 months or so later, I stumbled on a set of new V&H's slipons at 50% off. I paid $135 for the V&H's and soldmy SEII's for $150. 2 months later, I got the pipes I wanted from the start for 25% off and sold the V&H's slipons for $175 shipped. So, give or take a few dollars, I basically lost nothing on the slipons and that money I spent at the start ended up getting put into the new pipes a year later.
2007 fxdc Did you sell your stuff on ebay or here in the classified. Just asking because I will have some stuff later. Sorry don't mean to hijack thread.
