I recently got a set of new in the box, pre EPA Screamin' Eagle II slip ons. I want to get the stage 1 Screamin' Eagle air cleaner too. I called the HD dealer to ask about the price of the download. He said I would need the race download and that it could void part of my warranty. Why would upgrading exhaust that they offer and air cleaner that they offer void my warranty? Is it necessarily a bad thing for the bike to change exhaust and air cleaner?
The stage 1 download will not void your warranty. I believe they are talking about a different download but the initial stage 1 is specific to their stage 1 air cleaner. Be careful of adding an aftermarket fuel management system because it will void your warranty if they don't back it at the shop and that should be in writing. I have the stage 1 download with stage 1 air cleaner and it has made an incredible difference from stock and the slip-ons I have put on will not void the warranty either. Call them again and talk to someone else.
They might be confusing a SERT with the stg 1 dwnload. Don't let em. You can get the stg 1 dwnld for about $150.00 you'llneed at least that if you are going to a hi-flo A/C.
My '07 SG runs just fine with the stg1 dwnload. I found many different dealers giving bogus advice on this issue until I finally found a knowledgeable/professional dealr who steered me right.
I might go to a fuel mgmt systm like SERT or PCII or fuelpak WHEN i put on full new pipes, but for now, all is well/ good luck.
Yellowhawk, I went the same route as you, Ness big sucker, SEII's [pre EPA] And a SERT. (Screamin Eagle Race Tuner)
The Canned Maps that come with the tuner are a good base to start with. I would recommend a Dyno tune after everything is installed for optium performance. Lot's of members here to recommend a map for your application.
I think your bike is an 2006... Easy to do. I had a problem with The SERT and windows Vista. Had to use Windows XP With a Belkin Cable. If you go with a SERT. I'll get you the link to my install. The Sert is a pricer route to go but offers a varitey of tweakable features and you can install the canned map yourself. Takes a few Minutes to hook up and reflash the ECM.
