I own a 2007 dyna custom wide glide. I stripped out 3 of the primary inspection bolts while servicing my bike. the bolts i am talking about are the Torx-27 bolts on the inspection cover. Does anyone out there know what tool I can use to remove the bolts safely. I really don't want to scratch the cover but if i do i can replace it. I would appreciate your help. also I am not a big fan of torx bolts can I replace with regular bolts with the same thread and size?

I did the same thing........then went out and bought torx socket set. That let me get a better bite and slowly got them out...yeah the small ones SUCK!
did the same thing on my steetbob. I snapped 2 of them. I was ablr to get the primary off and then take the broken bit out with needle nose pliers. They break off pretty easy. I had to go to the stealer and get replacements.
Well, I guess I'm not alone. Many of the fasteners have a bit of Locktite (or another type of thread lock) on them from the factory. In addition, perhaps these fteners are torqued a BIT too much. I had trouble with one fastener on the derby cover. Using the correct size Torx bit and a short extension, I "tappped" (hammer) the fastener a few times, and I was able to get it loose. This helped break the thread lock, and also assured a good seating with the Torx bit.
As far as scratching the cover, I put masking tape around the work area.
Drill the heads off with a 1/4" bit. Once the cover is off you'll be able to remove the bolt with vise grips. When it's time to put the cover back on use stainless steel socket head cap screws.
When you get the old ones out, go to ACE hardware and get some chrome allen head bolts and washers. Makes it a whole lot easier next time you remove the cover. Some folks say to go with stainless, but IMHO,if you break one of them off you are really in trouble. pretty much impossible to drill into one. I just went with the chrome allen heads and I never have a problem on either of my scoots when removing or installing them.
just get a drill bit... but a slight nudge in the stripped bolt.... pop it with a tap... this will help to stretch and break the threads loose and use an easy out... happens all the time
