with the fxdf, its got 1 1/4" bars, and in-between the black risers it has a little chromepressing that covers the bars.
The bars are internally wired and the wires exit from under the bars right in the middle of the risers, and beneath the chrome pressing.
Can one of theguys with a fatbob ( I'm still waiting on mine...) let me know if we can remove the little chrome pressing and if I can is there enough room to put a barons 1 1/4" tach with clamp between the risers without crushing the wires exiting thbase of the bars?
That chrome piece you're referring to is part of the upper riser clamp assembly, which is all one piece. Check back in a minute for a pic, while I dig out my camera, and you'll see what I mean. I think you'll be 'hard pressed' to remove the chrome piece; it's in there pretty good. Take a good look at the pics of the riser clamp, and you'll see that crushing the wires wouldn't be an issue as they feed out through the hole in the bottom of the hole in the bars and don't even touch the bottom of the upper clamp. My parts guy told me you can install an HD mini tach clamp between the upper clamp and the top of the risers. HD part number: 67268-06A. I would verify this info before buying though as I'm not sure of the compatibility with the fat bob; the P&A catalog says you can use this bracket on '07 later wide glides, which I'm sure are wired same as a fat bob, but double check anyway. Hope this helps. shoot me a part number on that baron's so's I can look at it real good with my old bars/riser assemblies. I took off the straight bars and put on 1 1/4 10 1/2 in wide glide mini apes, same dimensions as fat bob bars, except for straight vs. mini-ape.
thanks for the info lonewatie, I know it takes a while to take pics and post em, and I appreciate the effort.
I hadno idea that riser cover was one piece with a chrome dress piece over it.!!
That screws with me badly now......
You see, I went down to my dealer this morning, and they looked in the part book and saw a pic of the riser cap, and said its sold as ONE piece, but can be pulled down.
Yours doenst look like it can pull down at all.
On the strength of the dealers comments, I just this arvo bought a barons tach for a 1 1/4" bar from cruiser comtomising, see address;
Now I'm stuck with it I guess. I might have to mount the tach off to the left or right of the risers or get into the riser cap with a dremel and cut the middle out.I'm spewing.[:@]
nope - that tach definitely won't fit under the risers, like you said off to left or right - okay. As for the pics - no problem, what else am I to do at 5:30 am with my coffee and freezing rain outside. The HD tach mount setup looks to be viable option short of replacing the speedo with a combo unit for $450. I was in same boat, but haven't put a tach on for now. With my mini-apes, the HD mini tach would fit/look good between the clamp, which is now all chrome - same fit as the fat bob, but the wide glide setup is all chrome risers/clamp. good luck, keep us fat bobbers posted what you come up with and post pics once you get your bike. one more thing -you can pry that chrome piece off, but you'd still be left with the one-piece riser clamp, and probably a chewed up clamp at that.
5:30am and cold rain...... I'm sweating like buggery over here. Just got back from a 2 day trip into some of our mining camp areas and it was 45 degrees C in the shade. I was battling to find a piece of shade to hide under and could'nt get enough beer to swill down.
As for the bike, I used to ride a real nice Blk Suzi M109R and did some very nice mods to it so I figure I will do the same on the FB.
I just looked on the 08 HD catalog multi-fit section and they sell heaps of risers and caps etc in single pieces so I figure the riser cap doesnt need to be one whole piece for any reason other that HD decided i would look good.
I'm going to cut a tight-smooth slot in the middle of the riser cap chrome bit,and fit my barons tach, and maybe then I'll mill a bit off the tachs mounting cap at he bottom of the bars to clear the wires a bit as they exit the bars. I reckon I want a tach, but I dont like the combo units all that much for looks nor price so the barons a dinkum goer.
When I finally get the FB I'll do the mod and flick you guys some shots.
FBOZ.
Sounds like your plan would work. Me, I'm not smart enough yet for fabrication of stuff, but will get there one day. Where you at, Australia? Curious about the 45 degree C. temp.
