search feature not working tonight, who makes a good removable backrest? i already looked a haulenass and like but im looking for other options. thanks in advance! brian
Hi Brian, I don't know what other ones are about, personally I went for Harley and have no complaints, the kit works well, never had that option on my previous Dyna.
I havea fewpicturesin the Photo Galleryof my bike with and without the backrest.
+1 - like my HD detachable - easy install, easy to clean. still unsure of the luggage rack you can get with it though, like my bobtail fender rack better.
Plug N Play is the other option, only other one I'm aware of. Looks like "***" in my opinion, Haulenass looks alot better, BUT have heard positive comments on both.

Other option I just found out about is if you want a nice 2 up seat, Corbin is now making a dual tour saddle you can have a backrest for front rear or both, and this is a specific seat for Fat Bob, but seat is $500 and backrest $200 each. But they are good about having different colors and materials available to you fo no extra cost, not a cookie-cutter seat.
Corbin Fat Bob seat: http://www.corbin.com/harley/dyna/hd-fxd-8-dt.shtml (ps the chrome rail thing on the back is an option, don't have to get that if you don't want it. The chrome concho looking thing on the side is a switch for the heated seats, again it's an option. I think you can get a backrest without the hole in the center too).

Incidentally, on the Haulenass and PlugNplay, my understanding is it is no problem having the backrest plate under the seat and the V Rod optional backrest is done this same way. Supposed to be able to take these on and off about as easy as removing the seat, just a few minutes to change it around.

guys thanks for the responses! phil, is that backrest that you have removable off of studs mounted on the fender rails? and did you get this through harley? was on the harley web and did not see a b/r like yours. if yours is quick detachable off of studs like i think it is this is what im looking for. you wouldnt happen to have p/n would you. thanks! brian
Phil can correct me if he wants to, I see you and I are both online right now. I think that's just the Harley removeable backrest, that one I figured you'd know about, kind of a no-brainer that you can get a Harley backrest. I like the other options because there are no sideplates.

I'll see if I can find the removeable HD backrest on their site. I think the FXDF is a little different, not much. Yeah there is a latch on the rear and the front is kind of a "fork" that engages on to the front stud. You slip it on that stud, then it swings down and catches the rear one with that latch.
