Default 12" Center Width Apes - Too Wide For A Bob?

I'm looking at a set of 16" pre-wired apes w/stainless cables from Hill Country Custom Cycles. The price is good. The only problem is they're 12" centers. Quite a bit wider than stock. I'm thinking it's gonna look a bit strange.Anybody running a setup like this?

Sounds a bit too wide to me.

I like how my bars are wider than my trees. Just make sure the bars wont hit the tank.

you should look for 10 inch on center. because they measure barsfrom the start of the tangents of the bend, not the center of the bends. so it would be 12 inches to the start of the radius, plus the size of the radius, usally 2 inch bends. so you are looking at 16 inches from outside to outside of the bars (12in. center + 2in. radius + 2in. radius = 16 inches). jackyl

You just hit on a pet peeve of mine - apes with a wide bottom on a narrow glide front end. I'd look for a set of apes with a 8 to 10 inch bottom section so they are more proportional to your triple tree. This, along with 1.5" bars on a narrow glide front end, don't cut it for me. But that's just me, it may work for you.

Watch those guys at hill county custom, I ordered my bars from there and it took over a month to get them. Left a bad remark and they said it was my fault. Those guy's never returned my phones calls either. Good product, but a hell of a wait.

I went with the 10 inch space at the bottom and have a wide glide triple to put on, so it will lokk right other wise it is over powering.

Thanks for the info, fella's. I think I'll walk away from the deal with Hill Country Custom. 12"+2"+2" is way too wide. Sounds like this vendor may not be the best to deal with anyway.Anybody got a suggestion as to where else to go for a16" pre-wired set with cables?

I got everything I needed from HCC. Seems some aren't real happy with them, but if you can find a better price somewhere else than please let us know.

They are not the sharpest tools in the shed and I did do my homework before buying from them. They managed to send me the wrong wiring extension kit and I called them on it and they refunded my money no questions asked. I also got my setup in less than a week, but apparently I'm luckier than most.

I had a bad experience with HCC as well - ordered poly bushings, they sent me regular bushings. Anyway, I have 16" Nash Gimps. They are about perfect at the bottom in terms of complimenting the narrow glide front end. I wired mine myself...its not that bad, just time consuming. I would imagine the Gimps are harder to wire than 'regular' apes, due to the right angle bend at the bottom - if I could do it with my 9 thumbs, anyone can.
