In Virginia, vehicle sales taxes are paid at DMV during the registration process. You should only be bound by the practices of the State you are registering your bike in.

You should only pay tax when you register in Maine and I'm sure you know what that is.

Small loophole I ran into a couple of years ago.

If I remember correctly, Va. charges like 2% tax when purchasing a new vehicle and register it there, then you pay personal property taxes yearly.

Bought a truck, I registered it in Va., then moved to Pa..

Pa. says you must pay full 6% tax on a vehicle when registering in state if vehicle is under 6 months old.

If you wait till after 6 months, no tax, register it, pay for tags only.

Saved me over $2,000.

I'm sure every state is different, but it might be worth checking into.

Can I ask why you did this out of state buy? Great price? Is the bike new or used? I have thought about doing this type of deal also.
