I occasionally rent motorcycles and worry about the clause in the rental contracts where you agree; if damage occurs to the motorcycleyou pay for the time the cycle is not rentable at the daily rental rate. My insurance does not cover that charge and I can see that as being a big liability even from a simple motorcycle tip-over even when you buy the rentalagencies rental insurance.
Only way that they can charge you that is if someone wanted to rent the bike out and it was unavailable and they would have lost revenue. Same thing goes with rental cars.
same thing with snowmobiles... here is the way around it from my stint as an adjuster... when you rent the vehicle, call your insurance agent and tell him you are looking at a new vehicle to buy, the guy let you take it home and it is un insured, insure it for a few days, cost you only a couple of bucks and you are golden! I did it a bunch this winter with my friends renting snowmobiles... works like a top!

slightly off topic but what does it cost to rent a dyna for the weekend?
been curious for if i go on vacation
I suppose it varies from place to place, but I usually see $125/day as typical.
On topic; I dumped a rental Harley once. They had to come get it because I couldn't ride it back (the bike was OK, it was me that was broken.) They charged me the dealer cost for the parts, a believable labor charge and that was it.
I never rent and I would never so I really don't know the answers for ya but damn, what happen?

Donnie: Thanks for your concern. No, that is not my cycle just a photo of a wreck. I do not know if the rider was hurt, we only can hope he/she was OK.
