Default Fork Lowers Leak Please Help!!

Installed new lowers, progressive springs seals etc. etc. Got everything back together and all seemed well. Took the bike over to a buddys so he could do some paint touch up for me (heated garage)and low and behold I start to get a leak around the seat pipe screw (screw in the bottom of the lower fork tube that screws up into the seat pipe). This screw was a bitch to tighten when I put everything back together, I pulled down on the lowers to put some tension on the seat pipe (per service manual)and tightened as well as I could but could still feel the seat pipe rotate inside the fork a when I go it so tight, the tourque value is not that high for the screw so i figured I was ok, no such luck. My buddy who has done extensive work on his bike and in a mechanic by trade suggested taking the forks apart and cleaning the seat pipe screw and threads and reinstalling them with some gray silicone so this is what I am planning. Any other tricks or tips to fix this would be appreciated. The wife is going through withdrawal from not riding and I am about to go nuts having a bike that is less than perfect. Please help. Thanks

If you are going to put a sealer on the fastner I would use white loctite hydraulic sealer/locker.

I trust you replaced the copper washer with a new one, right?

I used a broom handle, pushed in from the top of the forks, flipped everything over so the broom handle was on the garage floor and the bottom of the fork was up towards me -- them used the allen wrench to tighten it. It tightened up no problem.

Ditto, that part is a one shot wonder.

I am having the same problem with one of my forks. I think am going to try taking it apart and putting it back again also. If you fix it please post your results.

Finally gave in and pulled fork tubes and took to dealer to tighten. Took them about 10 min and they even did it free of charge. Well not really free cost me about 1000 in parts for winter mods, oh well put it back together and all is good rode today and felt awesome. I think that the biggest problem was with the hand tools I have and no fork tube vice I just couldn't get the bolt thght enough to stop the seeping.
