I'm on the verge of buying my first Harley, and I'm trying to decide between a leftover '05 superglide or getting a 2006. On the one hand, the saving is about $2000. On the other hand, do you think the extra gear and fuel injection are worth paying more for? My riding will be pretty casual - mostly around town and day trips. My back won't handle long trips. I've settled on the Dyna becuase of this, thinking it might suit my type of riding better. Any adviceon this and the 05 vs 06 question would be appreciated - thanks.
Sounds like the 05 might to go. 2K off sticker buys some good stuff to boot. Is it the base or custom superglide? Getting the standard 'glide in the 10k range and custom in the 12k range sounds very attractive.
PS. Based on your driving description,I bet the 6 gear on the 06's would never be used; Strictly used above 65MPH. Carb vs. FI....carbs just makes the eventual rejet that much easier.

I just bought the 06 and it is a very different bike in more ways than the FI and 6 speed. I waited for the 06 to come out because it really has a bigger frame and handles a bit smoother. Now add the FI & 6 speed and it's worth the $2k. Plus you may want to consider the re-sale value of the FI and 6 speed vs 5 speed. Anyone looking for a used one will favor that combination. The extra gear really makes a huge difference in the entire gear ranges as you get a broader band of gear ratios. KB[sm=signs003.gif]
The new 06's are just too good to pass up if you're trying to decide between the two. The numerous improvements the 06's have make them WELL worth the extra money. Besides in the end it's only money. Don't you want the best you can buy for your money? Of course it's your choice but given the two options I would always buy the 06. Trust your own judgement though.
...and don't say that you've "settled" on the Dyna...these are awesome bikes and the 06 Dyna's are (in my opinion) the best line Harley has this year.
One down fall of the 06 vs 05 superglide is that they changed the handlebars. The 05's were much better. The 06 lowrider still has a good handlebar set-up.
If it was me, I would get the '06. I rode a couple new Dynas at a rally last summer and really, really liked them better than my '03. The spacing between gears is closer than it was on the 5 speed and feels a lot better. For bone stock bikes, those two really accelerated good. Some of that was a result of the different gear ratios I'm sure, the overall ratio in 3rd, 4th and 5th is numerically higher on the 6 speed.
If at all possible, ride them both and decide if it's worth the extra $$.
ride them both if u can the 06 dyna is the best in my opinon but its your opinon that counts my freind has 03 and there is abig dif. in handeling and even if your going to only hit the highways very littel that 6 spd. the best and dont for get that fat tire!
2006 was a huge year for the dyna. In my opinion, it is well worth the money. This 06 I have will be in my garage for a very long time. I always havve a bike to play around with, but the dyna is the numero uno!
ok ill give u prolly the best opioion on them, since i was in that problem just 4 months ago.i was debating about the same as u but it was for a 04 lowrider and the new dyna streetbob.i rented the 04 for a day and gave it about 120 miles on it .and then rode the streetbob for a day and rode about 80-100 that day.and my opionion hands down is the new 06.tons more options by far.the wider rear tire(huges the road awesome),the 6 speed trans(is shear genius) even if u dont use ,when u do u will love it.and far some reason i think it just handles far better then the 04.and u will get a better warranty for the 06 thats better then the 05.so i bought the 06 streetbob and never looked back or second guessed myself.riding season is over for me now ,in construction mode on bike now.but i put 2100miles on it in 2.5 months and loved it.i have a real bad back and iam 6ft 6 inches tall, and never had a problem at all with pains or the next day from riding.so if u ask me hands down the 06 by far.i req. trying a test ride on the streetbob very nice bike ,i love it.u might to.
