Default Lowrider mods for 2 up

I tried this in the Evo forum but didn't get much response so...

I recently bought a 1997 Lowrider with the intention of riding 2 up with my wife. Details:

-Stock seat, passenger is comfortable but my butt gets numb after 20 minutes; prefer new seat to be brown
-Shocks & front end badly oxidized
-Severe front end dive
-Wish to replace bags with brown, unadorned saddlebags
-Jury's still out on the buckhorn bars as I initially hated them but they do look old school and vibration is minimal
-The Vance & Hines pipes are keepers, I love the sound & feel

I'd like to make it look sort of like a 60's old school style. I'm debating between a wide glide or springer front end.

I'm having a tough time finding pictures for inspiration as nobody seems to like the King/queen style seats with tall sissy bars any more.

I don't know how long the link below will stay active but it does depict something slightly similar to what I'm going for:
http://www.itwtrading.com/bikesforsale.html

I'm on the road a lot so while I will be checking this post as often as possible I may not answer questions promptly.

Appreciate any suggestions or comments - Thanks in advance

Spleen

I should have put "waving," "real biker," "chaps" or "fingerless gloves" in the title.

Or maybe I could have been more clear with my question. Does anybody know where to buy the stuff I'm looking for or have suggestions as to whether a wideglide or springer front end is preferable?

I think a wide glide front end with some 14" or 16" Gimp or Carlini Ape Hangers would look good. Paughco.com has everything need for the front end. You can also try J and P cycles. As for seats, you can try corbin or mustang. Both companies make excellent seats. Boss, Iron Bags or Leather Neck Jims can probably help you out with the bags. I hope this points you in the right direction.

I'm having the same sort of troubles with my '95 Lowrider. The downside for me is that '95 was the last year for that frame; in '96 they went to a new one, and most seats are for '96 and newer.

My bike's in the shop right now getting Progressive shocks on the rear and some new springs in the forks, as well as Kuryakyn forward controls (plus new tires and a 10K service). If you have a lot of oxydization (??) on your fork tubes, you may need to replace those so you don't get leakage, but it sounds like you're going to replace the whole front end. My plan, after replacing the seat, is to get some quick-release mounts and some Tsukayu "Jumbo Strong" leather-covered bags. The quick-releases will allow me to take the bags off without a half-hour of wrench turning. If it all works out, I'll add a snap-off batwing to the front to complete the touring package. With a few minutes' work, I'll be able to pop off the extraneous gear, maybe swap out the seat for a solo, and go street cruising.

If I go with the wideglide front end, I am considering these:

For a springer, I'm looking at these:

or these:

Prefer not to have chrome as things oxidize here rather quickly

Thanks for the info. Here are a couple shots so you can see what I mean by "oxidize"

Far as seats go Corbin touring was what I used for years on my Low Rider before it became my solo bike. Their seats are on the "firm" side but very comfortable. Most people like them for long distances. I have a Mustand solo on it now and I still don't think it's as comfortable as the Corbin. Problem with the touring seat...it's big and does nothing for the look of the bike...but sometime function must take presidence over form. Far as the shocks go...I replaced my stock 12.5" shocks with 11" shocks and it was just too low...I bottomed out going out of my driveway too fast and $500 later I learned a valuable lesson...you can customize and dick around with the bike only so far.

There are many mc seat builders that can modifyyour seat and make bags. I think Corbin seats suck but mustang or Lapera aint bad. Still, the name brand stuff is mass produced.
