Default Finally installed new badges

I've never held on to a mod longer without putting it on the bike than these. I was convinced I hated the stock badges on my bike and ordered these online a couple of months ago. By the time I received them, I had reconsidered so they've sat in the console of my truck ever since. Being bored and no other mods in the works, I decided to go ahead and see how they look. Maybe just because they are different, I like them. Of course, I'm holding on to the originals if I ever decide to go back to them.

I have to say, this wasn't as easy as I had expected. I have previously removed my rear reflectors twice, once from the fender, and then later from the struts, and my front reflectors, as well as the idiot stickers on the downtube, battery box cover, and factory a/c cover. Anyway, after 2 cut pinky fingers from the fishing line, several feet of broken fishing line, and a blister on one thumb from rubbing extra "goo" off the tank, I got it done. The right side badge came off without a hitch. The residue left behind rolled up and off fairly easy with just a few spots left to get removed with goo-gone. Theleft side of the tank was a different story. The badge came off easier than the right side but the "goo" left behind took forever. I hit it with a hairdryer, soaked it with goo-gone, rubbed with my fingers, andscraped with my fingernails. Finally got it all off.

Anyway, here are some quick pix from each side. You are welcome to post your opinions but that's not what I am after. I'm sure, based on previous threads, as many will hate as like it. So, it's just another example of doing one's own thing to please one's self.

They look good, Greg!! Nice addition. Subtle, but classy. Most folks probably won't even notice.
But I have to ask.
Will they work with the magnetic flames?[sm=escape.gif]

I might have to try - might look kinda cool. [8D]

Wow, you are pulling from way back. Those flames have been in the console for months and will probably stay there.

Looks good!

Did you follow the good advice from the forum and tape off the area to measure? Or just use your eyeometer?

I used my typical half-assed hybrid method. What I did was find a spot where I liked the badge on the right side of the tank. I then took a measurement (with a flexible measuring tape) from the neck around the tank to the edge of the badge and took another measurement from the edge of the gas cap down to the top of the badge. That was enough to give me the same placement on each side. As far as aligning them goes, I used the eyeometer to angle it slightly between the straightline of the bottom of the tank and offset that a little given that I'm running a tank lift.

I'm sure if someone took some serious measuring gauges and methods to it, they are probably off milimeters here or there but I did it on a lift with the bike straight up and walked back and forth and looked at every angle and I can't tell with my eye that they are any different.

The Badges really give the bike a reallyclassic and tough look, really nice!

Bike looks great in my opinion.

Very nice indeed.

Cheers,

Looks good, I have been planning on doing the same badges as soon as it gets hot out.

Why not do it now so you can ride when it gets hot out? LOL

I think heat is overrated when it comes to removing these stuck on things like badges and reflectors. I've yet to doany of them when it was necessarily hot or with a hairdryer. It'was about 52 out today and I did get out the hairdryer to try and help with that difficult left side but it didn't seem to help much at all. Go for it.
