I can't seem to get the 21" 18" combo out of my head so I am thinking about re-doing mine. Just to get a feel about cost I called the place that did my wheels originally, Black Bike Wheels, for a qoute. They will re-lace my wheels with a 21" gloss black front rim and polished stainless spokes for $365.00. The rear with a gloss black 18x5.5 and polished stainless spokes will be $415. These prices include all labor using my stock hubs which are already gloss black and no tires, but I will by those seperate and probably go with Metzlers with a 180 for the rear. I am thinking about doing this one at a time when I need a tire change which means the back would be first. My other thought is to just do the front and leave the back 17" wheel alone. That will save some money but I am not sure about mis-matching tires since I have the SE 180 and they don't make a matching front in a 21 that I can find. Any thoughts.
An 18 in the rear would look great. A 21 in the front would also look great. I have recently obsessed over the wheel change idea. hdwheels.com has the best product out there IMO when it comes to laced wheels. Go to their website and order one of their free CD's with pictures of wheels on it. It's free and you will enjoy looking at all the designs.
After much consideration I think the Perf. MachineContrast Cut Judge is the best looking, best functioning, greatest all around wheel. Being machined aluminum you won't have any tube/flap issues like with a laced wheel, plus no spokes to tighten, etc. etc.
.
that is expensive! wow... you figure if you get polish spoke just reg ones (i would get cubbys or ribbed ifi was you... iLOVE mytwisted) they will run you about 100 bucks... then another 60 for the rim (ebay), 25 for powder coat, use your stock hub and bearings, powder coat your rotors (why not the tires are off) 30 a piece, 110 (TOPS) lace and true slap on the rubber... ok... so that is $325 for the front... maybe 365 is not that far off... did that include rubber? 2 recomendations i would have if you do it... and i am sure you will... powder your rotors why they are off the bike... may as well, and go with a diff spoke like a chubby or ribbed... if not you will regret it! I saved an extra few weeks to afford my twisted spokes and i tell you what... worth EVERY PENNY! ooh ya... save some $$$ leave the 17 on back... if you do anything lace up a fatter rim so you can roll a 200 later down the road... 17 is cool and still keeps the back end low... granted these are all just my opinions Neal... after all we seem to have the same taste in bikes [sm=guilty.gif]
