Default Tech Cycle open primary for Dyna

Anyone running a tech cycle "cyclone" open belt drive system on their Dyna '06 and up? Whatare the downfalls to a open belt drive system, any performance loss or gain?

Not got a tech cycle but do have a BDL. I dont think there is any loss or gain performance wise. Apart from the lack of drag from the clutch and chain runing in oil. What they do save in tho is gaskets and oil when needing to work on the bike tho.

Plus they look better

there are pros and cons to running open belt vs wet chain, vs dry chain - you can do a web search and find all of em - ribcracker is true that open belt has less drag then a wet - but id carry an extra belt for rides longer than a bar hop - you do potentiallylose roadtrip reliability and roadside repairability (is that a word?)for instance, more potential for road hazards to come in contact and it dont tak much to be onthe side of the road with a shredded belt and does the dealer in no where ville have the right belt for ya? just 1 scenario, but its happened to more than one of my bros. tho i cant rgue, opens look far better, and in reality, there aint a whole lotta roadside repair going on with the new bikes these days anyway so my example is probably less and less reality
i do hear very god things about tech cycle - didnt realize they had a set up that would work with our 6spd trannies - any idea how much the set up is gonna run you?
if you got the coin, id say go for it!
post pics when you convert.

thats my 5.5 cents worth
Ditto

it is easier just to carry a spare belt on a long ride. But like you said less people fix stuff at the side of the road these days. Main reason I have one is for the outer bearing support for the clutch...having a big motor I thought it would give the trans an easier time.

No clue on the pricing yet, but Im fixn to send them an email and get some pricing. They have 2" and 3" kits available. I knew tech cycle made kits for the 88tc (A) but, I hadnt checked back with them for a year and now they have everything 6 speed folks need.

been talking with the crew at tech cycle re: a cyclone for my 08, the drive and guard are ~$3000
+ on my bike the balancer on the front is now welded on so tech cycle likes customers to send in the shaft so they can machine it off properly, cost another $150. still thinkin bout it, i don't necc want an open drive but i do want a dry and light primary, not many choices.

This is cleaned up from replies to my post in another forum here on HD Forums:

Disadvantages:
1. They are noisy (whine)
2. They are prone to failure (belt damage from debris)
3. Some are wider then stock w/cover
4. They are expensive
5. Clutches wear faster
6. You should invest in covers (save pants, boot heals, keep out rocks)

Advantages:
1. They are lighter.
2. No fluids
3. No adjustment needed
4. Better clutches

Besides looking cool, for $3k+, there are a ton of other performance things I'd have done to my FDXSE2 before an open primary.
