You most certainly can jump a bike from a car. Don't do it with the car running. Hook up jumpers following same safety pre-cautions as in a car. (avoiding sparks) on cable to positive, negative cable put it on a ground connection that is connected to the frame.
If it is only the battery the bike will bump right over.
Also if you must remove the battery, most of the crap in the HD manual will just cause you pain. You don't have to connect the ground lead from the frame. Pull out the maxi fuse which will break the positive connection, use an insulated open end wrench/ or offset phillips, and you can reach the terminal nuts from the top, and pull the battery out. Takes about five minutes as oposed for 20 the Harley way.
Always wear gloves, eye protection, and a good idea to have a partner at least to watch so if you do have a problem you can have someone available to call for help. Finally the new glass mat batteries last much longer. I hook up the trickle charger as conditioning once a month just for insurance. The charger came with a quick disconnect so very quick to set it up.
Also if the bike is going to set for a long time and it is already in a secure location. Disable the alarm. This will extend the amount of time it takes your battery to discharge.
after reading about al of these battery problem i got a hd tender for my bike an 08 superglide custom, that i brought in september. I had no problems starting it , runs fine . so i hook up the tender and the light is brite amber meaning less than 80% charged. With the security system clocks and computer there is a draw i surely felt it would of had more or a charge seeing we rode it for two hours on tuesday. I guess thats why my dealer put a tender plug on every bike they sell. I just thought i would pass that along because i surely felt my battery was fully charged. henry
