I'm currently looking at a 99 wide glide that I may buy.I wanted to get some input from guys and gals that know bikes .So heres a question .
What do you think about this bike for 7500 dollars .It has 80000 miles on the bike .30000 on a new motor that harley put in a few years ago.The bikes in real good condition ,just went to the HD shop for the crank switch went out .Now i GUESS THE GUY COULD BE LIEING ABOUT THE NEW MOTOR BEING PUT IN 30000 MILE AGO.Thats my only fear.So i think im going to ask for papers or reciepts to confirm or prove to me that its true.
Im sure I want thios bike and he let me test drive the bike and it ran great.Im currently scraping the money together .
The bike has sabble bags ,front windshield ,forward controls .ready to go .
I really don't wanna go in dept for a new one .I think this is the one .what ya think.Harry
Thats alot less then I gave for my 97 Wide Glide. But it did have alot of $ in extras. Boyd wheels and matching sprockets and rotor, andrews cam, braided lines, Mustang seat, etc.
I would definately ask to see the receipt for the new motor... and even then 30,000 miles that someone else put on amotor is alot when buying a used bike. As far as the price goes, I would try to talk him down a bit. At 7500, he knows he's got a high mileage bike that not alot of people are going to be interested in. See if he's got a receipt for the motor and see if he'll agree to let you have the biked checked out by a mechanic at your expense if you are really interested. Also, you didn't mention what shape the bike was in... you can tell alot about how it was cared for by clean it is, and I don't mean like he just cleaned it today before you came over, but like the wheels, do they look pitted, down around the oil filter, how clean is it, is the chrome still nice and smooth or does it appear to have been neglected? Just things I would look for in your situation...
I have a 99 and I got a great deal on it through a buddy of mine and his girlfriend so it wasn't your average deal, but I got mine for 7 grand and it only had 22 thou on it when I got it. I would do some more lookin and see what ya come up with!
Ya the guy did alot of riding on this bike .He goes to stugis every year .and that a hell of a long way from new orleans. The guy really used this bike alot. Thanks guys for posting.
Excuse me , did you say New Orleans, the same New Orleans that was under water after hurricane Katrina? I would definitely be looking else where. My two cents.
