Friends don't let friends (even stupid ones) drive drunk. I can understand your guilt - you weren't the cause of it, but could have prevented it. There have been times in my life where somebody had to knock sense into me (not drinking related) where sense was needed. While I may have not understood it at the time, I was thankful afterwards.
Great post - I'm sorry for your being in the middle of this.
Damn, That story just sucks...Rider, don't feel guilty, you expressed concern, and she is old enough to know which direction to go in...Hopefully everyone will come out of this all right.
The weather turned out great this whole weekend...I was in RI myself on Friday night...It's the whole getting used to the season again..Both cagers and riders.
Sorry to hear about that I was also in bristol on sat night. I rode through and around down through wickford and into newport. It was a nice day for a ride. I never saw anything on the news about this accident but I think you did the right thing by telling her to find an alternative ride and she made her own descision. Ride safe. I personaly dont ever drink and ride. just my .02 cents.
You did more than your part. They were two adults, not kids.
Just another reason why Idon't drink alcohol when I ride. Not one drop.
I couldn't agree with ConnMan more! You did your part by trying to convince Ms. Jessica not to ride with the guy in that condition. You can't force anyone to do anything butI really admire you for trying!
I see people at rallies downing beer after beer and then pitcher after pitcher and then get on the scooter and head off. They are fooling no one but themselves. I limit myself to 2 beers--then wait at least 2 hours to get back on the bike. During the wait, I try to eat some chips or fries and then down a Coke or Pepsi along with it. The bartenders always give them to me free when I tell them what I am doing. If you let the ice melt a little everyone thinks you are drinking a Jack and Coke and are amazed that after 3 or 4 you are still talking coherently. I know that sounds like a "*****" but I can still recognize one at midnight!
Sorry to hear your story. But hopes it makes others think. I'm a beer or two tops when on the bike. I've been called every name in the book from others. But when it's me and the wife on the bike. Two is tops for me.
