READ THIS...
Hey FXDC Rider, I know exactly how you and your wife feel
I went through the same thing with a fellow rider last year on August 19th at precisely 5: 10PM on our way out of Boston from the Baseball Tavern- about 7 of us...Greg had had too much to drink. We could kinda tell by the way he was talking. Can't tell a grown man what to do, though.
He got on his bike and we rode down Newbury and onto the causeway beside 93 south....stopped and got gas at the Mobil....We took off...accelerating....and he blows past me doing about 60MPH and accelerating fast.
He was about a telephone pole and a half length away when he drove directly into the curb under the Mass Ave overpass... It just looked like he'd exploded...when I came up onto the wreckage, all that was left was a frame, rear wheel, and front wheel......tank and handlebars were gone....and so was Greg.... He'd shot off the bike about 25 yards away in a grassy knoll area....we walked over to him and we knew he was gone
In both of these cases no one else was involved (outside the accident vehicle), but what if these morons hadn't hit something on the side of the road, but another car. With your wife or kid in that car? Or worse yet... if they were swerving andcaused your wife or kid to respond, and THEY hit the bridge abutment while the drunk motored obliviously on to the safety of his warm bed?
Nope, I'm a pretty laid back guy, but there's a couple of things I just draw the line at and - especially now that I have a little girl - drunk driving is one of them!
You and your wife keep your resolve... It sucks when stuff like this happens- but shows us all just what's at stake and how quickly it can be lost to stupidity
And yes, skiahh, you're right.... In retrospect, something should have been done to prevent it....but hindsight is always 20/20.... by nature, most people tend to give people the benefit of the doubt...and i suspect that's what happened with us...and with FXDC Rider and his wife
Thank god nobody else was hurt, though, in either case.... had that happened, i suppose the guilt might have been something to reckon....who knows
Last night Jason was pronounced dead at the hospital from liver failure. He was 27 years old & leaves behind a 5 year old daughter.
Guys...PLEASE...ride safe & be smart about what your doing out there on the roads! Don't be the next story we're talking about here on this board! Please ride safe!
plain and simple don't drink and drive.... glad she is ok
I like to have my spirits, but like other said I do it at home. When I am out on the Bike, I drink water or Soda Pop. I may be whimp, but getting home in one peice, and not killing someone is the goal.
(I don't do it with someone on the back, though, or in a cage. I don't wanna kill anyone else. Just myself.
