Default SERT tune before 400 mile ride?

Last week I put new pipes on my Fat Bob. V&H Short shots along with an Arlen Ness AC filter. Put them on myself with no issues and riding around town great, no popping no backfire unless I'm just ******* it off the line and rarely do that. Anyway, I talk to the local shop about putting something on for the fuel air mix and they state that they will not put the PC III on the bike, that they have a drawer full of them in the back along with fried ECM's that they were connected to. I think about it on the fly and buy the SERT, they say they can tune it with the SERT and DYNO and I think I can tune it later if needed after the DYNO. Short story going long, they are two or three weeks out for DYNO tunes and I'm heading to Thunder Beach on May 2nd. Should I remap the bike myself or wait till I get back for them to do it(800+ mile trip). I've looked at the manual and see a few maps that might work, but the standard maps are for SE equipment only.

I don't know much about the SERT. But, I do know you should do something to richen it up before riding it too long. If you can't dyno tune it, put it on and get someone to give you a map that should be close. Somone around here probably has one if a documented one is not close enough.

By the way, there are a lot of people around here that use the PCIII and all of the dealerships within 100 miles from me push that product as their primary solution for aftermarket tuning. This is the first I've heard of them frying themselves or frying the ECM's. Not saying it isn't true - just interesting....

ive had a PCIII on for 2500 miles now no problem. easy to use and tune yourself. ive heard no bad things about PC at all and was atleast $100 or so cheaper then the SERT. also ive heard that once you use the SERT you cant take it off the bike but the PCIII you can . like if you sell the bike or something
When i was looking at a fuel management system i did my research and asked alot of questions and i can to like the PCIII the best.

The main thing you will be running into the stock tune is lean, add a stage I without a re-map and it will be even more lean. This will cause the engine to run even hotter than stock. If you plugged in your SERT, kept the same map shape, but just richened it up a bit (like bump all numbers down .2 or .3) you will cool things down and not make your engine too bitchy. Best choice is a dyno though.

One dealer her recommended SERT and the other recommended the PCIII. Ended up with the PCIII after some additional research. Seems to be more tunable and user friendly to do yourself. Just my nickel.

Since you've already bought the SERT, go ahead & upload the map closest to your configuration (probably will be #67). Set your O2 bias tables to 760mv (maxxed out). Tweak it a little if it "pops" some on decel. You won't be to lean for your trip. Get the dyno done later.
