Default SERT vs. PClll vs. Fuelmoto

Been reading posts and had a few Q's -

1. Does the PClll have more flexibility than the SERT?

2. What experiences does anyone have with the Fuelmoto?

3. I have an '05 RK Classic with the stage one download, K&N filter and Thunderheader slip-ons - not true dual. Does the SERT and PClll have pre-programmed maps in them where a person can select these basic mods and just program them in? As close to stock as mine is, I was wondering if you really need to spend the money for a tuner and dyno to take a few passes - or just program it yourself.

Just checking on the value of spending the money on the dyno and tuner labor - I'm frugal too!!!!! But more importantly I share a check book with the wife!

Well, I'm not sure what a Fuel Moto is (unless you're speaking about the FuelMoto website). The SERT definitely is more fine tunable than any other ECM controller. I personally have the PCIII and am very happy with it. If you buy it from FuelMotoUsa.com they will send it to you preprogrammed for your exact setup. Thats what I did and it ran very good. I was very happy with it and could've run my bike like that without a dyno if I wanted. But I did get the dyno after about a month and I feel the money was worth it. The bike had more HP and Torque after the dyno, plus it was smoother (this was due to the fine tuning of the A/F ratio).

So answer to
#1. No
#2.Me-none (sorry)
#3.No-SERT must be done by a tech or someone with knowledge of SERT program. PCIII can be tuned from your laptop and there are maps on the internet at the PCIII website, but nothing is actually per-programmed into the unit. Again, Fuelmotousa will pre-program it for you.

And lastly, you can get by without a tune if you have a proper map, but the dyno tune will make a big difference.

#1 No.... SERT is an ECM Program modification Tool, where you ACTUALLY manipulate the data inside the EPROM...... SERT has more tuning TOOLS available to it within the Advanced Mode of programming....

PC is an Inline Piggy Backed Signal Modifier (Modem) that manipulates and modifies the real signals to and from the ECM....

#2. Installed a few PC's from them that customers brought to us..... Maps were ok... Driveable for the most part.....

#3 SERT has HD maps that once you load it, you can manipulate the data to tune in your needs or to modify certain parameters that are not beneficial to the performance (or lack of)......

PCIII is the same concept, just not as many tools to utilize, but a Huge library of "Canned" Maps...

No matter, you are going to want MORE out of it, so yes, you will need to tune it..... And if you mess it up, you revert back to the previous config.....

Or you pay someone to do it... your call on that......

Frugality has nothing to do with it.....

How much is that Top Notch Performance worth?

JMPO....

Thanks for the info.... it sparks another question. Most of my riding is long trips - I go round trip from Washington State to Nashville once a year, plus I do other long trips as well - so mileage is a concern to me. What have been your experiences in MPG's after the PClll was installed? Is it one of those deals that you just tell the tuner to error towards the econo side? Most of us aren't running for pink slips here, so some more performance is cool, but I don't want to get all nuts or anything. I've heard that after the PClll was installed, and the tuning was done, that performance gains were definately felt, but mileage went down in some instances from 43 mpg to low 30's. If this is the norm, then I guess this unit isn't what I'm after. I'm not a light to light racer, I'm just looking for more performance, but I guess if it's gonna cost me 10 MPG, maybe it's not for me.

So, any before and after stories out there on fuel economy?

With a custom dyno map, it all comes down to the experience/knowledge of the tuner. With that will come the balance of settings for performance/fuel economy. My ONLY choice was a PCIII, when I looked at tuners in my area! Stand in a dyno chamber and watch your bike actually get tuned on the fly, pretty interesting.
