I recently bought a 2008 Super Glide Custom and would really like a cool paint job with ghost flames on all three tins. How much should this cost if I am willing to do the dissasembly and reassembly myself? Do you folks have any recommendations on good places to get this done? I saw a post somewhere on this site of a custom painter this weekend but I can't seem to find it again. I haven't found any good paint shops I would trust up here in Northern Wisconsin as of yet.
all depends on quality, paints, and hours... if you have them use PPG colors it will save you a bit of money but i always use a flex in the paint and a real good clear hardener... makes all the diff... in the rocket project i jsut got done with it was 495 in just supplies alone... granted that is a TON more surface area than you would have on your bike... but still... i am a big fan of house of color and PPG paints... if you ask ABC on here he is a fantasic painter! he can help you out a ton as well...
Like sporty said, it depends on how much work you want done. If all you are looking for is a simple flame job over black, it's about $1100-$1500. If you want a detailed base, with 3-d artwork/custom flames with graphics, it can shoot up to $2500-$3000. I got mine done from attitude custom (highly recommend them) and had a ghost flame job over black. Ran about $1800.
I'm looking to do the same thing. Got a quote of $3,000 from a guy that our dealership uses and that isn't including having the dealer disassemble the bike! I'm not looking to cut corners and I'm wanting a quality job but that sounds pricey to me especially after reading these posts.
I originally got quotes from $1500 to $2100 (including tins, but no labor for dis/assembly) for custom ghost flames. I went with a quote for $1900 that included all labor. I've been waiting nearly six weeks for the finished tins.
Ouch that's a long time! The one thing I've heard about this guy I got the one quote from is that he turns things around pretty quickly which is also important but I don't know if it's $3,000 worth of important!
