I have been looking at Harley's for over a year now and need to buy. Tired of looking and need to be riding. Have test ridden baggers, Softails, and Dyna's and always come back to the Dyna's, seem more fun and better for my planned type of riding. Want a bike I can just get on and hit the backroads, mountain areas, etc and just relax and enjoy the ride. Don't expect to do any touring.
Anyway, am looking at the FXDC and the Fat Bob. Love them both. Have not ridden the FB yet so maybe that will help. Can anyone give me a perspective on these. Oh, am 48 and have been riding mainly dirt for years and did a lot of road riding as I described above for a long time until the kids came along so got out of the road stuff and stayed on the dirt with them. Live in Arkansas where there are beautifulplaces to ride. Will also say that money is not an issue so don't let that come in to play in the comments.
Nothing to say on FBs, have not ridden one. I can talk about FXDCs.
I'm 51, my 07 FXDC is my first road bike and I friggin' love it. I'm an around town short Saturday trips kinda guy and theFXDC works perfect in my opinion.
My '08 FXDC is GREAT! I love it! I do the short runs, but like the 200-300 miles rides too. She handles nice, and is comfortable too! I like both of the bikes you're looking at. I like chrome on a bike, so I went with the FXDC. I did put some ST Bob mini apes on her though. The stock bars on the FXDC weren't too comfortable for the longer trips. Also, going to forward controls.
Anyway, before I start rambling on too much, ride the Bob too, before you buy! Get the experience of both bikes, and remember, you can change out ALMOST anything you want down the road...
if money no issue then how about a lowrider instead of the fxdc in your list of choices. just a thought, as I am of the opinion that the lowrider is a much cooler ride than the fxdc (I own the fxdc).
HD1044,
I have a FatBob and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I have forward foot controls and the angle of the dangle on the handlebars is such that it seems to me that you end up in a kicked back riding position. I am 6 ft and 240 lbs and handlingthe HOG at low speeds or backing it in parking spots hasn't been a problem. The seat is 26 inches or so off the deck and it is comfortable to me and you don't have to teeter totter around on your tip toes to get this thing turned around in tight spots. I have found that the stock seat is going to go BYE BYE soon as it is a little tough on the long rides. I had a problem with holding the throttle continuously and my right hand falling asleep but a quick turn on the throttle friction lock has fixed this. Hope you get a FatBob and enjoy. The dual headlights really sets it apart along with the larger front tire.

Sorry, I thought you said ST Bob. My bad. Completely different situation there. Try out the FAT Bob, and make the decision. Same deal goes with liking the chrome on the FXDC, I guess... Let us know what you get...
I have a FatBob too and like MattsFatbob08 I love the ride ,I haven't found anything I want to change on it ,except at 5'10" and 185 lbs I could change the handlebar risers to stretch them back about one inch and then I would be totally relaxed at all times. And at my weight the stock seat is super comfy. Handling in tight corners at very low speed the bike totally obeys,it's just fantastic! I even met a girl who bought an '08 FatBob at the international moto show here in montreal! And she loves hers too!
After trying several bikes, I ended up getting a FatBob which is a perfect fit. I traded a VRodbut decided to go more classic. I really liked the Wide Glide, except for that 21" front wheel, and there are many 07's left over at dealers too. Many customizing options available too. So, FatBob with fat tires, or Wide Glide with narrower tires and more classic style.
