Never ridden a FatBob, the style of the bike just doesn't speak to me, but, apparently it does to you and thats what matters. I have a 06 FXDC and love it ! Nit-picking stuff aside it's hard to go wrong with a Dyna regardless of riding style.
you need to ride a fatbob then make up your mind either bike will do what you want with ease. one thing for certain is the custom is a beautiful bike , but I prefer to not polish so much shiney stuff and like the solid rims with tubeless tires . the ability to plug a tire and get home is pretty important to me. I also like the dual disk front brakes . when I traded funds wasnt an issue and there were bikes of every family from sportster to touring class and v-rods that I test rode and liked but I kept going back to the fatbob . it was the bike for me . and that is what you have to do buy with your heart not your wallet , one more thing have you looked at the street bob there are alot of happy customers here on them , It never hurts to try them all.
good luck and have fun shopping for a new scoot.
I have a FatBob too and like MattsFatbob08 I love the ride ,I haven't found anything I want to change on it ,except at 5'10" and 185 lbs I could change the handlebar risers to stretch them back about one inch and then I would be totally relaxed at all times. And at my weight the stock seat is super comfy. Handling in tight corners at very low speed the bike totally obeys,it's just fantastic! I even met a girl who bought an '08 FatBob at the international moto show here in montreal! And she loves hers too!
Althought I really love my Fat Bob, I have to agree with the point about the handle bars. The stock rise on the FB is great for agressive riding. But, on a long trip the reach will tend to wear you out. Im 6'2 and even with my long arms it gets tiring. Did 500 mile overniter this weekend and started tp get cramps in my shoulders on the long, straight streches.
I bought the Fat Bob. I really like the FXDC, FXDL and FXDF.In the end, the major differences for me were the forward controls, the fatter tires and of course, the black powdercoat. That silver powdercoat just doen't do it for me. It's like it hides the chrome on the motor, yet the black powdercoat makes the chrome POP.
Kinda comes down to whether you'd prefer a single or dual headlight, rounded rear fender or bobtail styleandthin or fat front tire? I won't even talk about the difference in bars because you probably won't keep either stock one anyway? They're both really comfortable bikes...one's more of a classic design as opposed to a somewhat radical one. Of course I'm biased, so you already know what I'm going to tell ya...
Wow!! I really appreciate everybody's input. Love both bikes. Am going to ride the Fat Bob this week and then decide. Oh, somebody asked about my size, am just over 6' and about 190. Think either is fine for me. Love the look and style of all the Dyna's!!!
Thanks again and will let you know what I decide (with a pic of course!!)

you should be bias that is a very nice looking scoot , no matter what they say black and chrome always looks good.
I would say test drive them see which one you feel better on.. I have 2008 Fat Bob and love it I am 6' 4'. I changed the seat to a sundowner with a back rest,Changed the exhaust to Rush 2.0 slip on's and moved the foot peg ahead another 3". It is really up to what you feel comfortable on..
Checked out a lot of bikes before I picked one and went with the FXDC. I'm 5'8" about 160 lbs and 51 years old and back in the saddle aftera few years absence. I love the feel of the bike and love riding it. Check em all out first and just make a well educated decision. Either way, you'll love the one you pick (just get off your lazy butt and pick one!)
BobbyD....Thanks for the comments! You sound like my friends "just get off your lazy butt and pick one!" Will head to the local dealership at lunch and check them out again.
