I like all Dynas. After doing a bunch of research I ended up going with the Fatbob. Handles and rides great. I think I made the best choice. Don't think you can go wrong with either though.
Ok, went to the local dealer again today. They do not have a Fat Bob but the guy told me they are better than the FXDC because they don't shake and have the latest technology!! Ok....that is crap!!! All 2008 will have the latest technology. They don't have one in stock even for me to test. Plus they don't like me because I haven't bought yet and they are struggling a bit. New big dealer and very arrogant. Don't understand why I just didn't buy something on the few trips in. Anyway, this is the same guy that tried to sell me a SoftailStandardthat was left over and discontinued. He told me I should buy it because it doesn't shake like a dyna. Beginning to think he is an idiot!
Will head back to the dealer that is 1 hour away, smaller, very friendly, offers great service, and will even pick the bike up for free when service is do. Oh, they will also throw in the first service if you buy from them!

He's actually kinda right?...sort uh?
Dyna's are known for more shake at idle, butless shake during the ride. Softail's shakemore during the ride & les at idle. As far as the difference in shake bewteen Fat Bob & FXDC, they're both Dyna's so the shake would be the same. All bikes "shake" though, so I wouldn't even factor this into your buying decision at all.
When I went to get my Fat Bob the dealer had one but it was sold I told the sales person what I wanted. She called me a week later and said she had found one if I still wanted it. see dealers can trade bike between each other so ask them to find you one..
Last July I bought a new 07 FXDC, Black Cherry. The black cherry is a bad color choice as it shows every speck of dust it encounters.
When I purchased the bike, it had a good feel, but the seat was a little uncomfortable, I am 6' tall and 350lbs. I replaced the seat
with a tall boy seat, this gave me two inches additional room to the back of the seat and about 2 inches in height, now the bike feels great. (old stock seat as new available). I mostly do short rides around town, but have taken a couple of longer trips on it. I also added a detachable mid sissybar/backrest and luggage rack, forward highway pegs and a 19" Memphis Shades. There was a bit of turbulance
coming up under the windshield so I added the memphis shades lowers, and now this bike is just perfect at any speed. The windshield comes off easily, but I find I leave it on more and more. I've checked out other models before and since and keep coming to the conclusion that I purchased the right one for me. At about 5000 miles, I'm beginning to notice a rattle/vibration at low speed about the time I go onto second gear, but it quickly dissipates as I speed up, annoying, and I have not yet figured out the source of it, but its going
in for service next week so perhaps they'll find it. The FXDC is a great bike. I would buy it again, same model, just different color.
I've owned Electra Glides, Wide Glides, and Low Riders, and after a long layoff from scoots I test rode most of the new stuff, and my brother's 05 FXDC. I do a lot of local riding, lots of bar-hopping,twice weekly runs of 3 hours round trip, and 60 miles round-trip each day to work and back home. The FXDC was the most nimble and best feeling when scoot'n around town or when buzzing though country roads, and with a good shock setup it was also very comfy with the wife for two-up trips to the beach or the mountains. So for me, it was a no brainer. I went with the FXDC, which looks a WHOLE lot better with the larger fork diameter now, btw, and then put hardside bags on it and got the largest TourMaster b!tch bag available. With the windshield and all the bags, I have a baby bagger that rides awesome two-up for longer trips and still gets prety decent mileage. Then on Friday nights I can take off the bags, the tour pack, and the windshield and go zipping around town or hitting the twistys. The FXDC is a relativelyinexpensive jack-of-all-trades that looks good doin' it's thang. No contest ... for me, anyway.
