There are a lot of articles out there about octane boosters and the running consensus is most all of them are a rip off. The common thing written on the bottle is "raises octane X points!" in some manner. What this really means is if the gas you buy is 91 octane and the additive says it raises it 5 points it is only going to give you 91.5 octane NOT 96 like they lead you to believe. This is usually based on a 20 gallon car tank. Dumping a whole car size bottle in your tank will not give you some super high octane number either. There is a point where it will not do any good.

If the hose is10-feet with an internal diameter of 3/4 inch, the amount of regular gasoline would be 0.229 gallons (V = pr2h, or 3.14 x (0.375 in.)2 x 120 in. x 0.00433 gal/in.3). About a quart. Where do you get a gallon and a half?
radius squared, right?

how about some of this applied math to this thread on gas savings vs. speed?

His calculation is correct. It's difficult to represent "squared" in plain text because you can't make the 2 smaller and higher up. In plain text, as well as most computer lanquages, the usual convention followed is to use ^2, i.e. "2 squared" is represented as "2^2". When he wrote "(0.375 in.)2" he probably should have written "(0.375 in.)^2," but his result was correct nonetheless.

I have an idea. Just wait at the station until someone else fills up with 91.When they're done, rush over and use that pump. LOL. I've never had a problem with gas, but I don't use cheap gas unless there's no other choice, and then I only pump enough to get me to a major brand station. Adding Techron is a good idea if you're stuck with poor quality gas.
