That's probably considering using SE mufflers and SE a/c. SE mufflers are much more baffled and closed than other slipons and completely different than full pipes. You can't take these or AIM's articles and statements that are specific to certain configurations and apply them across the board - you just can't. There are many ways to do this. Just check your bike after and see if the results are what they should be.

Nothing wrong with you getting a remap oz - it's one of the options. Nobody is saying you should buy a tuner or fuel manager. No need to be so defensive. Some of us chose different options that are working for us as well. There is nothing to "smarten up" about. Just because we didn't do it your way doesn't make us stupid or uninformed.

The download and most fuel management systems (except SERT, which can do the exact same thing as IEDsand more, or systems with O2 eliminators)do NOT address the closed loop portion of the map which is 90% of your driving and idling. AFR is still 14.7 through most of the usable driving range which results in a hotter running engine. IED's willhelp this and result in greater roll on power and cooler temps. Agood stage 1 set up would be IEDs and the HD download or some other fuel management systemfor the 5% of the time you may be over 35% throttle/3500 rpms. If I were to only get one, it would be IEDs. I bought the SERT for my current bike but 95% of the improvement I got could have been donewiththe IEDs rather than spending so much on a SERT and Dyno run. Systems with O2 eliminators set the fuel ration too fat and affect gas mileage negatively IMO.

See the link for a chart showing which systems can benefit from a IED.

Spend the few dollars for the IED's to augment the download during the 95% of the time your in closed loop mode and you will have an even better set up.

I must admit I am one of the stray sheep that got talked into getting more stuff that maybe I don't need. Forgive me guys if I ask some silly questions but one can go crazy reading all the post and trying to weed through the amount of info that is there.

I have an 07 SB with the HD Stage 1 Kit ( no HD download ) Rush 1.75 " baffles and got talked into getting a fuel pack.
After much more research ( which I did quite a bit before I bought everything ) I am now sitting here really confused as to which way to go. I don't want to lay down a bunch more $$$ at this time. I would really like to get the fuel pack off my bike for warranty issues.
I do have XIED's on the way but not sure where to go first to get the fuel pack off. Should I get the HD down load for the stage 1 kit first then remove the fuel pack?

Should I put the stock air box and filter on remove the fuel pack and then go get the HD down load. Will I have issues with running the rush pipes with out a hi flow A / C?

Ultimately I am wodering how it would run with the Stage 1 / Rush 1.75" / HD down load and then install the XIED's.

I am so lost on this issue and feel I am going to be stuck with parts I don't need

Can someone throw me a life jacket?????
I would be greatful for any help,,

Later,
Joe

BRAIN OVERLOAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man...I want to finish my Stage 1 (got the Rush 2.0 already) but I am so confused. I am not much of a gearhead myself so I was going to have the dealer do it but now I am afraid to even ask them for fear my wallet will be a grand lighter when I leave. When you guys started talking about IED's I started to wonder if I was suddenly in Iraq. After checking them out now I see I need a set of those as well so I can adjust the fuel mixture, a tuner, a SERT, acommander, a download, a dyno check, a new air filter......etc. It seems to never end. And being in California of course I can't even buy the fuelpak.

All I want is for my bike to run the way it should. Right now I am getting a lot of popping on decel and would like to get rid of it. The reason behind wanting to complete the stage 1 has nothing to do with the extra 5 or 7 hp or whatever. I want it because I want the bike to run the it really should. Not lean...just right. Not hot....but just right. Not popping...just a smooth throaty decel. Thats all I am asking for. Is that a whole lot?

ARGHHHHHHH

Ghost, what do you have on already? Just the slipons? No A/C? Finish the stage 1 with both pipes and A/C. Then get the bike dyno-checked for A/F ratios. If they are out of whack I would consider a remap and be done with it. Being in Cali, you're going tohave to adhere to their emissions lawsso you can't go too crazy anyways. I don't know if bikes are exhempt from future emissions testsbut tobe on the safe side I wouldn't mess with it too much.If the bike still pops, look into some different baffles first. I've read that some people on here said a differentset of baffles cured most of the popping. That is what I would do. If you want the bike to run cooler, there are oil cooler setups out there too.

Ybnormal.......no dumb questions. I'll say again that every bike is different. If I were you I would take this 1 step at a time. If you're worried about warrantee issues that much then I would remove the module, keep the pipes and A/C, and get the bike dyno-checked for your A/F ratios (like I did).Otherwise, if the bike currently runs fine, I'd leave well enough alone at this point.

Very true, I got the IED's (nightrider.com)about two months ago, nice improvement and goes well with the stage 1 download.
I recently put on 2-1 pipes (PYTHON) and my ECM gave codes P0131 and P0151 which indicates a 'lean' condition, checked for exhaust leaks and found the one clamp given to clamp muffler to pipes is a POS so I put a better clamp on, no codes!
Just saying, the IED's are great, but sensitive to back pressure/scavenging especially when going to a performance 2-1 pipe.
Now to really confuse you; nightrider has an Xtreme Ied out that will change the AFR to 13.8!!

Ok...So imagine I am really stupid and have absolutely no idea what these IED's are or where they go. Could someone explain it to me like you would a 5 year old?

And my stealer wants 250.00 to do the download. Isn't that a bit high?
