Well, I searched and searched for a mating plug to the siren pigtail plug under the seat behind the battery box on my '06 Dyna.I finally found a plug supplier that told me that there is no mating plug to that plug. The only mate to that plug is a box designed to hold electronics (like the siren or the sirenII). To order one of those required a minimum order of 2500 because it required a plastic molding run of like boxes from the manufacturer.
So I soldered some pins out of an old computer plug (free) onto the wires on the siren (about $7.00 from Radio Shack), insulated them with shrink tubing (about $2.00 from radio shack, stuck them into the female pins on the pigtail and wrapped securely with black vinyl electrical tape and now have sound eminating from the middle of the bike when the alarm system is disturbed.
The red wire from the siren goes to the brown w/grey stripe pin and the black wire from the siren goes to the light green w/ brown stripe pin.
I'm still thinking about using the dust cap from the pigtail to make a plug by drilling holes in it, pushing the siren wires through and sealing with silicone.
It takes me some time to mull things over before working on the project. Right now, though, I think I will pass on the $89.95 siren from HD.
The 300 plus dollar HDsecurity systemthat comes with the bike has no siren. The signal lights blink while your bike is beingrolled away without your permission. To add the siren (which most auto alarms have as a standard feature) HD wants 89 or more dollars.
hey tbone, I'm interested in doing this mod to my 06 lowrider. Did it work for you? I thought I read somewhere that the 06 model lowered the voltage output so that it would require a relay to work the siren.
The siren doesn't chirp when you cut the alarm on because there isn't enough voltage there for the brief time that the chirp signal is switched to ground. It will sound loudly when the alarm is activated and there is a continuous ground to the siren.
When I cut the alarm on there is a faint click that is audible. When I cut the alarm off there are no clicks from the siren.
With the alarm on, I disturbed the bike and the alarm sounds one chirp with both times that the signal lights flash.
With the alarm on, I sat the bike upright and it sounded a brief chirp with the signals flashing once with a pause then another and then it went on continuously with an ear piercing siren sound that did not stop until I cut the alarm off.
It might not work exactly like the $89 one from HD but it does work to my satisfaction. I don't think I would notice the turn signals going off from my bedroom at night but I am pretty sure that I will hear the siren going off.
It might not stop the determined professional but, at least, the opportunistic "tief" isn't going to get out of the driveway without some deterrent.
I used the Radio Shack siren #273-079and mine chirps when activated. I also kept the dust cap on the bike connector, I drilled 2 tiny holes in it, stick the siren wires thru and into the pins then sealed the cap with silicone. I used 2 sided tape to secure the siren behind the fuse panel where it belongs.
I have the HD one on my wife's bike and mine. IF you watch ebay you can get 'em for $50 like I did and have a chirp everytime. THe hd version al works with the HD pager so if the bike is disturbed the pager goes off. Of course the pager is another $100 if I remewmber correctly.
Thanks! I'm going to have to try this soon. Did anyone get a definitive answer as to what that plug is and where to get one?
Yes. There is no mating plug to that alarm plug. The only mating plug made by Delphi is the Siren itself. You either change the plug on the pigtail to one that has a matching mate or cut and splice or stick the Radio shack siren wires into the plug and tape it up or drill the dust cap and stick the wires through and silicone it.
Now I wonder if my homemade pins aren't connecting good enough to give me a chirp when cutting on and off. I am sure that the alarm signal carried by the center wire briefly goes to ground when the chirp is supposed to sound and then goes to ground continuously when the alarm is activated. Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll take it apart again and try another connection method but, I am satisfied for now that it works at all.
