Default Proper etiquette question...

This past saturday i dropped off my bike (by appointment) at a local independent to have my handlebars swapped. They said it should get on a lift in a day or two. Yesterday I called to follow-up and I was told there were three others ahead of mine and then it should be up on a lift. They said that would probably be a day or so and they will call me.

I'm not used to bringing in my bike to get serviced and am wondering if and when i should call to follow up. i already have it in my mind that if i don't hear from them by saturday, i will stop by and just pick it up and do the swap when i have the time.

Any thoughts? suggestions? past experiences?

Thanks.

When you scheduled your appointment they should have given you a completion time. Provided they did not run into problems It should be complete. My definition ofappointment isthey have me scheduled in a time slot to begin work. I would call.

It really all depends on the shop, if you feel like your getting jerked around, do it yourself. Stop by and see what they have on the lift.

Pick it up now If you did not make an appointment I would say your problem but if you did I would get it out of there. What will happen if you have a problem later Bike down for 2 weeks?

I must have missed that on the first read. Tazman509 says it all, if you had an appointment they should have started on yours at that time.

It's like that seinfield episode except instead of reservations, it's appointments... "they know how to take appointments..." these guys have a great reputation but i think they are just overwhelmed with work. they had lots of bikes waiting in the shop. my paranoia says if i pest them, they could pull a "pissed off waiter scenario" ie spit in your food stuff (which i strongly doubt they would ever do, but that's my paranoia and that is what it is).

my dropping by saturday will be unannounced so i can just get my bike and let them know maybe next time... "no harm, no foul"

If it's just handlebars why not do it yourself. It is really easy unless your changing out cables or running wire internally?

i think the lift part was just an expression (and probably mine). as for the job... yes, it will require replacement of all cables and also internal wiring for electric. if rain wasn't in the forecast for the next couple of days, i probably would just go get it. but being that is the call, if it's going o be sitting under a roof, it might as well be theirs because the bike will have a better chance getting the work done in their shop as opposed to my garage.

but saturday is my cut-off for waiting. it will be in the 70's and i have free time to ride.
