RE: How far on a tank of gas
On my long ride of the Spring (so far), I logged 205 miles on an overfilled tank and my LowFuel lite hadn't come on yet. Still had 2 blue LED's on the flush gauge. Filled it anyway and it took 4.5-gal. Steady 60-65mph, mostly flat, '06 DWG, Stage-1, windshield, saddlebags.
Went about 135 miles (light came on around 120 but I have a tank lift), and had been caught in some nasty stop and go accident traffic for about 30 minutes, filled it up and only took a hair over 3 gallons, so figure I ought to be able to go 180 or so in a pinch. Have Stage 1 intake, K&N filter, V&H pipes and a dyno tune.
Since we're talking about fuel I have a problem with the nozzles on the gas stations' pumps. They have that vapor capture devices on the ends which require a pressure exerted on them before the pump will pump. This seems to me to push the nozzle too far into the tank and then cuts off before the tank is full. I usually force that device upward with one hand while pumping with the other so as to fill completely. It's just something that bugs me.
Now the original question, I ride a '06 Street Bob and get 42 mpg. I have the tank lifted so the light comes on way early and I ignore it. I reset the B trip odometer each fill-up and refuel at 130 miles. I let it go one time to 165 and actually ran out of fuel on the interstate. Luckily I was near an exit with a gas station and pushed the Bob to it. Learned my lesson; not going to push it again. ;-)
i was filling with the light and only getting3.5 gal in. and was filling at about 135-140. but i only have about 410 miles on the bike. im putting new pipes, filter, and se pro super tuner kit on tom. i will let you know after that.
Sometimes my low fuel light comes on when the gauge reads 1/2 tank. Most of the time it comes on at 120 miles I was getting 37 MPG. I installed a set of those Xieds expecting to loose fuel economy. To my surprise my MPG went up to 42.9. Now the low fuel light comes on at 150-160 miles.
I usually start lookin for gas around 160 - 170 miles. I've gone 205 and only put in around 4 gal. When the light comes on they say you still have a gallon left. With no reserve, don't think I'll see if there right. I do carry a siphon hose but if I ever have to use it hope its to help somebody else out![hr]
dude 205......your chit is too lean......you better take it to a dealer to get it tuned or you are going to melt your pistons
