So i was thinking to myself today as i was dropping off my Dyna for its 1k service and seeing the 310$ price tag. . . why would the dealership charge for the first service after i already paid 15k for the bike?? Atleast sneak it into the price and tell me its free.
 \\;
Should this be something i negotiate when i trade up or buy a new bike?
You should have bought the maintenance package, then all service up to the 10k is prepaid or free depending on how you look at it. With my business schedule it made sense for me to let them do that, and it included several other goodies and perks. All rolled into the finance package. Didn't do that on my first 3 HD's so I gave it a try and mostly happy I did.
Unless you think there might be something wrong with your bike, DIY, your basically just paying for an oil change, there supposed to check a bunch of stuff, which you can only assume they will actually do, \\;just keep records.
That's what I did, Frasers here in Oz wanted me to shell out $390 for 1500k service. Brought the genuine Harley oils and done it myself. Keep receipts. Jeez you blokes get em cheap over there. Our $ is nearly up with yours and new Fat BoB here cost me 26500$.
You're right... should be included.
 \\;
Bruce Rossemeyer who owns a few dealerships down here in South Florida just started including it for free.
 \\;
The service only actually costs the dealership $150. But I paid $310 for mine.
 \\;
I will let the dealer do all my services until the warranty ends.
If the site would let me edit my own post....[:@] \\; I wanted \\;to say that the service manual should be the first thing anyone gets before they take delivery of their bike IMO. \\; Basic mainenance is not very involved, fluid changes can be done with some basic mechanical skills and hand tools, you don't need to be a certified mechanic. \\; You'll get a lot of satisfaction in doing work yourself and the $$$ you save is just an extra bonus.
 \\;
Anyway, that's my take on the cost of things and how to save a few bucks. \\;
Hmmmm..... when I bought my 07 Dyna Lowrider, they told me that the 1k and 5k warranty checkup would be done \\; "for free". (Complete check up, oil change, etc) \\; I have brought it back for the 1k and they kept their word. I am at 4500 right now and will be going back VERY shortly for the 5k.
