My first Harley was my 06 1200 custom, day \\;I brought it home it was 34 degrees outside, so I trailered it, and didnt have my bike license yet. \\; \\; Gave my buddy a hard time when we were unloading it, told him watch it, dont tip it over. \\; What happens? \\; I get on it, ride it 2 blocks, do a u-turn and drop it right there. \\; \\; No damage except for a scratch on the rear left turn signal housing luckily. \\; \\; Im on my fat bob now, no tipovers when I brought it home. \\; I just avoid u-turns as much as possible or if i do have one to do, take it wide. \\; That msf course a couple years ago helped a ton too, but tipovers happen. \\; Just part of it. \\; \\; I was afraid to tell anyone back then, but share it often now. \\; \\; Even at a poker run this last Saturday, saw a good friend whos ridden for over 25 years and knows more about bikes in his little pinky finger than I do \\;at all, \\;on another close and trusting friends heritage softtail, accidentally tipping over in the parking lot. \\; It happens, but just glad you and your bike are still ok after its over.
ozfree- that's cool. I didn't know they covered that in the course-should have guessed they do. I practice tight turns for fun, plus it's good to feel totally in control no matter the situation. I wish more riders did the same because a big pet peeve of mine is (what seems like) the 80% of riders I see doing the duckwalk at any speed under 5.[:'(]
I'd rather do a duck walk \\;than \\;drop her an bang up a $25,000+ piece of art in the middle of the street.........then try like hell to lift her up all by yourself, that is if you didnt break a leg when the bike lands on it. \\; I wish I had a smaller bike to practice with...something that I didnt care if it got banged up or not, or so light that if you do screw up, you can \\;put a foot down and still hold up \\;the bike. \\;You might be peeved at 80% of the riders, but you're not paying for repairs to their bikes either \\; \\;Cut them some slack. At least they recognize their skill level and that \\;they're not Evel Kinevel.

Hey, to each his own, but I doubt I'll ever get used to seeing guys (some that have been riding for 20-30 years) have to duck walk. You don't have to be Valentino Rossi to learn how to \\;handle a bike \\;at slow speeds- more like a few Sunday afternoons in a parking lot. OTOH- it's really none of my business how \\;anybody else \\;rides- just venting about a pet peeve...
I hear ya..........but I'll bet some have dropped their bikes, maybe some are in their 60's and not strong young bucks anymore. Plus some dont want to be embarrassed if they would drop it in front of their friends, and lastly, Just the thought of doing "expensive damage" to it is enough for me to do the duck walk. \\; \\; The old addage speaks volumes.......an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. \\; You dont have crash bars on her......you'll spend big bucks bumping and repainting at minimum, your \\;fuel tank, and if you have a custom paint job......look out......as we found out the hard way.
Dropped mine sorta
 \\;
Pulling out of a gravel \\;driveway after lots of rain. \\; skinny 21in front tire slipped right so fast my knee was on the ground before i could blink.
 \\;
I rolled off onto my back laughed and swore. \\; My buddies almost dropped theirs laughing at me. \\; No damage except to my pride. \\; My bike has now been dropped once and high sided once. \\; Like Joe said. \\; 2 kinds of riders, those that have and those that will.
