anyone done a performance cam change?
im thinking about changing the cams in my 06 sg to add some performance. has anyone done this kind of mod.im looking for what cam to use and what gains could i expect. also i was thinking i might want to do the work myself. has anyone changed there cams there self, i've done cam and lifters on small block chevys but this might be a different cat to skin. im after some added hp and low end tq without doing any head work just yet.. thanks for any advice ..
Saint woudl you still rec the Woods TW6-6 if he has an 06' with the 88... i would def recomend them for the 96... but not sure on the 88, i have always hear 204 or 211 is the way to go with the 88CI
The cams that JRK5892 are really good cams for your 88. Doing the work is not really that big of a deal. I just did a 103" kit on my 96" and that included cams. With the 88, it'll be a little different but if you have basic skills, the shop manual, a torque wrench (inch pounds), and a basic set of tools you should be good. Just read over the entire install directions throughout the process before doing the job so no hiccups get in the way.
The TW6 cams would be a very good cam for the 88 incher. You can find em online. Just google Woods Performance. Bob Woods is a great guy and a riot to talk to. He really knows his business. The great thing about the TW6 cams is that you can keep them when stepping up to a BB and thay still slay on the bottom end. Just a really good TORQUE cam. They're pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.

i looked online and found the web sight..i couldnt find a price so i guess i need to call...i assum that when you buy a cam ,it will come with all nessasary gaskets , lub and break in procedures. i also thumbed through the manual and it talks about some special tools so i might see what i have to have exactly before i tackle this job.. i was hopeing for a weekend to do this job..

That's a negative on the gaskets and assembly lube. If they come with the Woods cams it will be the first time I have heard of that happening. \\;Good luck.

Get a manual for sure, here is some info:

 \\;no exotic tools necessary. \\; Bring the cyl you are working on to TDC, cut the pushrods, bring other cyl up on tdc, cut the pushrods. \\; Using binder clip wire, lift and hold the lifter away from the cam. \\; Pull the cam cover, pin and pull the outer tensioner, pull the crank and cam gears and chain, remove the oil pump bolts,, pull the cam support plate, and you have it! \\; Cams are ready to come right out. \\; This is an oversimplification , as you \\;may have to deal withthe exhaust and a few other small items prior to digging in to the cam chest,  \\;but it really is that easy. \\; No press required and no exotic tools \\;ofor cam swaps in the 06 dynas and \\;all 07 and up twin cams. \\;There are oil pump alignment pins that you can use but there is also an alternative method for centering the pump when you re-install. \\; There is also a tool used to keep the gears from turning while you tighten the cam and crank gears . \\; A piece of soft pine into the teeth will also work with out damage. \\; Easier with the correct tools, but not something that you cant do with a little improvisation. \\; The one really necessary tool you need is the service manual. \\; It details where the o-rings go, torque values and how to align the cam gears for timing and also the alternative way to align the oil pump. \\;
