Ok sorry for another ? about the forward install. But I dont want to cut the wrong thing. So here I go. Is the pic showing the shaft I to cut ?? and do I have to remove the outer primary to get to it? and what is this whole deal about wedging \\; the shifter behind a bolt??? in the primary???
 \\;

THANKS GUYS I just dont want to screw up my bike,

Remove the shifter lever. \\; The shifter shaft runs through the primary cases to an opening between the primaries and the engine/tranny cases. \\; Cut the shifter shaft with a new hacksaw blade accessing it from this opening. \\; Cut the shaft as close to the shifter arm as possible.
 \\;
Tape the top part of the hacksaw blade and that'll keep you from cutting up your hands.
That'll also give you some leverage to keep it angled and not scuff the inner primary case too bad, once you get the cut started its pretty easy to keep it goin smoothe, it took me about and hour to hack mine off.
I installed forwards on my '08 FXDC. I used the kit for the '05 and back which includes a clip to secure the shift lever to the case bolt. \\; I had to buy a longer shift rod and the threads on the transmission lever has changed to fine threads. The whole thing took about an hour.
Thank you so much for all your help, the grafic is very helpful.
Just 2 more ?'s.... do I have to worry about the hole in the back? And, is the shifter lever arm what the other threads are talking about wedging behind a bolt? wouldnt i just remove it ???/
 \\;
Thanks a million for all your help.... I plan on taking lots of pics throughout the process so that i will be able to help out in the future when some other poor sap needs help.

Yes, if the shaft is not cut, the kit fir the 05 and older models comes with a bracket to secure the lever.
 \\;
If you cut the shaft, the hole in the back needs nothing. \\; When the two primaries meet, they form a tunnel that is sealed and houses the shifter shaft. \\; This tunnel remains sealed so the primary lube stays in the cases. \\; The chrome plug which comes with the newer kit is \\;purely decorative.
Ok I finally got around to installing my forwards. I was gonna take a bunch of pics to cronicle the whole oredeal so as to help out future members trying o install them. BUt after i got started it went so fast and easy I abbondoned the whole idea of a reference guide.
 \\;
It was trully an easy job. It took exactly one hour to saw through the shifter rod. after that the rest just flew on.
 \\;
Thanks to all you that helped me out. I really appreciate it
