Windshield or No Windshield? Authoratative Final Answer
OK, I doubt this is final or authoratative but, I've tried several windshields and several bikes including fully faired baggers( metric and Harley ) with windshields and my final thought on the subject is that I hate buffeting caused by windshields. \\; I prefer no windshield or a very short flyscreen type windshield. \\; I also prefer shorter trips of less than 100 miles round trip to road trips because the windblast without a windshield or buffeting with a windshield wear me out. \\; I have also found that a seat with back support makes a huge difference when fighting no-windshield windblast. \\; \\; The great advantage of a windshield is that they take pressure off your chest so you're not hanging on for dear life when flying down the highway. \\; The small lip on my Corbin close solo makes a noticeable difference in back support when cruising down the highway. \\; I'm not hanging on for dear life as much as I used to be. \\; \\;I imagine the king/queen style seats of the Softail line offer even more back support. \\; \\;

The plexiglass windshield has got to be the ugliest accessory you can install on any motorcycle.Fairings on tourbikes or sport bikes look like they belong there but the clear plastic shields always look like a cheesy JC Whitney afterthought.

I agree with SPECIAL ED. The are ugly as add ons. Yes, they are functional, but I still enjoy the wind in my face and the feel I get when the wind pushes me back and I have to hang on tighter. To me, thats what riding is about.

I have put 14k miles on my bike in the last 9 months, and Id say about 65% of those miles were of speeds 70 MPH plus and I have never used a windshield. Feels just fine to me! But thats me.. I say no windshield!

I usually go without the windshield. \\; But Wednesday the OL and I are taking off on the Low Rider for Minnesota and Wisconsin. \\; We live in New Orleans. \\; We'll be trying to get in 400-500 miles per day on the way up. \\; Definitely putting on the ugly windshield for this ride. \\; Function over fashion this time. \\; Guess that's why they make the quick release windshield for Dyna'syou can switch back and forth so easily. \\; \\;
