My 08 LR has about 3/8 + inch slop before throttle rollon. My manual has you going to the throttle body to make the adjustments.
Cant I just adjust the cables at the throttle to take out some of that slop without going through all that at the aircleaner?
Thanks.
Ky,
Yes you can adjust only at the handgrip as that is what I did on my '06 LR. The service manual is a bit confusing as I thought also that I would have to adjust at the throttle body as well. Only caution is you can make it too tight. After my first service at the dealer I noticed I had a lot more slop in the throttle. When asked the dealer said it was necessary as too tight can cause the throttle to pull when you turn to the left. I thought that was kinda odd and he was blowing smoke but it does turn out to be true. If too tight you can cause the throttle to open just by turning the bars to the left. Yet adjusting it myself I was able to take almost all of the slop out with no problem. I guess the dealers have to be on the cautious side. That's why I love the service manual so much, not only can it save you big bucks you can tweak your scoot to just the way you want it.
So unless something changed on the '08s, which i seriously doubt, it's a pretty easy adjustment, takes 10 minutes at most and a couple of wrenches, safe riding.........
The trick is to loosen both, then adjust the throttle cable so it pulls the throttle open, but leaves it just a hair off of the stop. That way the cable is not stressed against the stop at WOT. Then adjust the idle cable to take up the slack in the grip, but only as much as you need. You can push on the idle cable at the front of the intake to make sure it is not too tight. Check to make sure the throttle rolls back to idle at center, bars left, and bars right, and then check it again with the bike in neutral and engine running.
Yeah, I did see that in the manual about turning the bars right and left as it will move the cable. Tomorrow, Im going to see the play when I turn full and see if it disappears at extremes. Guess Im being picky, just thought it was a little much and was bugging me.

Thanks guys!
Yes. \\; Make sure you turn the bars both ways. \\; A service tech at my local dealer adjusted mine for me and showed me how to do it. \\; I was glad too because if you don't do it right the throttle won't return when turning hard right,
