2002 Dyna Low Rider. I bought the cycle used and soon all five belt drive sprocket bolts backed out and hung up on the swing arm frame. I took off the wheel and added heli-coils since all the bolt threads were stripped. Then, I ran it over to the dealership and had them install brand new bolts and torque them to 55 ft/lbs. I asked them to use blue loctite but now it does not look like they did. Once again the bolts are loose. Again, one bolt spun out and locked up the wheel by hitting the frame. All the bolts were loose. I removed them one by one, added blue loctite, and torqued them myself to 55 ft/lbs. Anyone else have a similar problem? What was the fix, if any? Thanks.
I had the same problem on my 06 dyna, luckily I noticed each time before they got out too far. So I finally took them all out and put blue loctite on all then set the torque as you did & have had no problem since!
There has been several people that have posted about issues with this. I also had it happen on my 07. 2 of the 5 sheared off and the remaining 3 were all loose. had the dealer locktite them as well
I put them on with blue locktite, but I am going to get the red and redo them all. Fortunately (or unfortunately) this has happened to others, so I can benefit from the other experiences. If I had the option, I would weld the damn things on. There is no room for a lock washer, as that much extra width out from the sprocket would contact my belt cover rear bolt. I am not at all impressed that these bolts come out so readily. It is a huge safety issue. Thanks to all who responded. Brad
There was a thread a while back where a guy had his back tire lock up at high speed because of this issue and caused $$$$ big time damage. These bolts need to be inspected daily. I hope nobody gets killed because of this.
agreed, and use red on these bolts... i doubt the dealer did, but then again the dealer rarely does anything right... One dealer i would even let touch my bike is City limits in Palitine IL... honest people and good to work with... all the other 5 dealers around here are a JOKE... well wild fire is pretty good!
