I am in the process of changing out my headlight. I have three wires going to the original: Black, White, and Red. The new light has three wires, but are White, Blue, and Green. Has anyone installed a light that had this color combination? I figure the green is ground and goes to black, but not 100% sure and I don't want to blow an H4 bulb or fuse.
The only way I would be able to tell with out the wiring diagram would be to use an Ohm meter and ohm out each wire on both the new and the old lamp assembly.
it's 12 volts so it's actually hard to screw up. you have a ground, power to lo beam and high beam. i would say green is ground and goes to the black. of the two remaining you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right first time.
strip the green and black wires and just twist them together, turn on the key (so you have power) and touch the two whites together - you should have light. if so twist the other two together - now change between hi and lo beam and confirm. if not change the two power wires. should be pretty simple really. once you have it wired correctly splice the wires using butt splices and crimpers. if you want to do it like a professional slide heat shrink over the wire prior to crimping then cover the splice with heat shrink and heat her up. now you have a good looking, water resistant splice.
