Looking for suggestions from those of you wide glide drivers who have saddle bags. I have a set of small throw over bags from Fox Creek. They are great quality but not large enough for the long haul. I'm looking for leather bags with optimum storage space with good quality and looks.
OK I know I maybe alone but here is my 2cent. Leave the saddle bags to the baggers. With the QD backrest and a expandable T-Bag you have your bases covered. I can expand in and pack for 10 days. It's not that saddle bags look that bad, but what they cover up. (shocks, fender, wheels). And if you are just bar hoppin' you can remove everything for that slick clean look.
Jet, I'm thinkin most of the saddle bags you'll find for the WG's are not going to be all that big. But between the saddle bags (HD ones) and a big T Bag the wife and I could pack for 3 days each, put in our Overpass II rainsuits and footwear, windshield cleaning rags and spray, some straps, a lockset plus a few odds and ends. Worked for us on a 10 day trip last summer.
sonic, I'm not sure how you could pack for 10 days without saddle bags. But I agree that the WG looks better without the bags and windshield, and as soon as I arrive at the destination and back home, it comes off for local riding.
These bags are about 7 years old. Had them on a Low-Rider. Kept them and put them on the Wide Glide cause I like them. They don`t look very big but are flexible and it is surprising how much you can get in them. They have extra long straps so that you can strap quite a bit of stuff on top of them, jackets, chaps, gloves, or all of the above. Wife and I just did 2700 mile round trip into Calif. in 9 days, between the bags and medium sized bag strapped to sissy bar, we carried everything we needed with no problem.
