Never wear one in town. Always when I hit the highway for longer trips. I am thinking about full face for the "winter" here in Florida...all 2 weeks of it.
I never wear a helmet but that's because I hate my HD half helmet that I bought the day I got my bike. Next spring I may get one of the carbon fiber half helmet and I'll wear it on the highway.
I have a full face I wear for rain or extreme cold.
I have a open face I just bought for my busy work commute.
I usually do not wear one why riding for leisure.
The full face looks cool and I finally found a open face that doesn't make me look like an extra from Spaceballs. I feel more aware of my surroundings without a helmet though.
Full face 100% of the time. I like to feel safe, and accidents happen when you less expect.
Some people complain about heat, visibility, and comfort. About that I can tell it is a matter of finding the best fit. I used to have a 2XL HJC. Had to go 2XL because the XL put too much pressure on my ears. However it did not fit right because on long trips it had the tendency to move and feel uncomfortable.
After falling 3 times from the bike, I followed MSF recommendations and decided to replace my helmet. This time I got an Arai. They make 3 models for 3 different head shapes. When I tried my XL Vector I found a perfect fit: Doesn’t hurt my ears (even when putting it on), great ventilation, and very comfortable.
When I was looking for a new helmet, I read something from this forum that I think is very important: “ask yourself, do you wear it because of the law (meaning no law, no helmet)? Or you wear it because you really want to protect your head?”
The helmet is the one gear piece that can save your life.
New Jersey has the law and fine with it. I did a header into the asphalt on the shoulder of the road when I was in my teens on a quad. I would not be here if not for the helmet. I wear a Harley half helmet and it fits and feels great.
