I went down once when I was 16 on an interstate off ramp when I unexpectedly found loose gravel on a tight turn at 55 mph. It was rare I wore a helmet at that time but I had one on. If you ever see a guy wearing a full face, even on a really hot day, It's probably me.
I can control how I ride, but road conditions, wildlife and cagers driving like fools are dangerous variables. No reason to donate gray matter to the DOT.
+1 I don't give a funk or a wankle what the weather is, the full face is on. Figure I owe it to my family and friends to at least give myself a chance to live when confronted with a crash....been in a couple, seen a lot. I know of a number of instances where driver and/or passenger would have survived with a helmet.
One of which was last summer when a guy hit a deer at 11 am with his family right behind him in a van. He had his helmet strapped to the bike. His family got to watch him die from a massive bleeding head wound, it was not good.....
Full face helmet, armored jacket, gloves and boots 100% of the time. I can handle heat, I can't handle a crushed head. Since I just got my first HD, some of my buddies have asked if I'm going to replace my gear with some less protective stuff. Nope! If I look weird, so be it.
I've noticed that alot of people seem to wear less protection around town and more on the highway. Remember, most of the accidents happen with turning cars in town.
