Hey, Did something stupid Saturday night..Wore my Cordova - nylon riding pants that night because it was cold as hell and I haven't got chaps yet.. Anyway they got to close to the hot exhaust pipe and melted to it, leaving a nasty black rock hard substance on the pipe...How do I clean it off, anyone have any ideas?

thanks,
Mark
I had good luck with 100% acetone (nail polish remover), took it right off just DONT GET IT ON YOUR PAINT[]

Oven cleaner will do it, but be careful as it wil take off your paint as well. WD-40 worked fairly good. 0000 steel wool works great with any fore mentioned cleaners. Helps when the pipes are warm/slightly hot to get the plastic/rubber off.

LOL...when I first started dating my wife, I took her out on my Honda Shadow, and she was wearing shorts. I was a new rider, and didn't even think to tell her to put on jeans...or at least keep away from the pipes (she has really nice legs, and the short shorts clouded my judgement )
Anyway, she got off the bike from the wrong side and her lower right leg pressed right up against the exhaust. Amazingly, she didn't make a sound about it....I was dropping her off at her house, and she just walked in. The next day, she had bandages all over her leg, and she told me what happened. God bless her..she never even made a peep when it happened, and she ended up with 2 third degree burns.
The reason I'm posting this is because up until the day I sold that bike, there was something on the exhaust that I couldn't clean off no matter what I did. As it turns out, it was my future wife's skin! I left it on there

I use oven cleaner. I spray it on an old cloth and then dab it on where I want it. Avoid getting it on anything else. Read the instructions on the oven cleaner so you know how long to leave it. Oven cleaner can be kind of expensive - $5. You can find it in Dollar General cheaper.
