For local riding around town or under 60mph we ride without our windshields. I think the bike looks best without it off. Traveling long distance and over 60 mph for long does wear you down.

Hey BE, The best place I have found to get discounted harley windshields is Ebay Motors. There are dealers that have stores on ebay motors that have some pretty good sales. There's also a couple in Sandusky, Ohio that go by www.mandmcycles.com that have some smokin' deals also. They are very easy to work with. I picked up a fat bob standerd height clear windshield for almost $90 below price from a dealer in Florida on Ebay. You just have to be patient. The folks in Ohio just sold me some Khrome Werks slip-ons (new) for the fat Bob for $219.00. They run about $279.95. Check 'em out.

Look, you're always going to get some side wind or wind from below. That's just the way it is. For two years I have used the HD quick release model. Worked great for me and kept the direct wind off my chest and face (plus some bugs and rocks). I wear a half helmet and rode to work every day. But I also didn't like the way it looked on my bike sometimes. Kind of like the windshield on the Road King. During Street Vibrations in Reno, I talked with the dealer for Windvest. Said I would try it on the condition that if I didn't like it, I would bring it back. They mounted the smoked fourteen inch on my bike $330 mounted) and made the adjustments for me so that I look completely over the windshield now as opposed to mostly through it. I rode with it several hundred miles in the desert and over the mountains. It channeled the direct wind over my head. I would put my hand in front of my face and felt no direct wind. I would raise my hand above my helmet and could feel the wind flow over the windshield and above my head. Worked as the dealer said and yet did not give that big bulky look the HD model gives. Also comes off if need be (why?) quickly, just like anything else on the bike. It looks just like the one rhinoWeRX posted only two inches shorter and adjusted for me. So in my opinion, it works as the manufacturer stated. If you want a second choice from the HD model, look at the Windvest. If not, oh well. I think everyone agrees that some kind of wind shield is necessary for the kind of riding we do. I personally (and this is just me) do not want to be constricted behind a full face shield. But that IS another option.
